Bottle 375ml. @ Borefts Beer Festival 2009 - De Molen.
Clear dark dark brown black color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, irish coffee, wood - oak, vanilla, moderate alcohol - whisky. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is creamy and smooth, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is alcoholic. [20091030]

Bottled. A pitch black beer - ofcourse ;-) with a dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt as well as notes of medium notes of dextrose and a bit of alcohol. The flavor has powerful notes of roasted malt and dextrose as well as medium notes of wood and alcohol, and just a bit of whiskey, leading to a sweet dextrose finish. Too much original black not enough barrel finish for my liking.

37.5 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a huge, dense and chocolate brown head. Aroma is solid roasted malty, whiskey and coffee. Wooden and yet also hops fruity. Extremely dextrose sweet, roasted, smoked and dark chocolate mixed with hardroasted coffee notes. Thorat burn into the finish. Quite extreme - yet the barrel aging does give this a bit of smoothness and more depth - still way too sweet.

Papsoe (25131) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 3, 2010
Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours pitch back with a tiny light brown head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, sweet vanilla and whisky with a distinct booziness. Massive body, lots of burned malt, vanilla and dextrose with pleasant whisky accents, ashes and wood. Very boozy finish. Hard to drink and digest, but still quite enjoyable. 030410

Bottled@Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma wood, caramel malts, some roasted notes, dark dry fruits, alcohol, liquorice and also mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is quite much the same with alcohol and ashes coming through rather strongly. Also wooden notes are stronger. Nicely balanced wooden notes.

Bottle at 1st Borefts Beer Festival at De Molen. Pitch black coloured with a huge beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of caramel, dark chocolate and vanilla with notes of coffee and whisky. Sweet and roasted flavour of dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, whisky and alcohol. Roasted and alcoholic finish. Had 10 cl of it, which was perfect, it’s impossible to finish a whole bottle.

37,5cl bottle @ Vinens Verden, Odense. Pours pitch black with a creamy brown head and lacings. Nose is roast, whisky, peat and coffee. Smooth, oily and full bodied. Chocolate and roasted flavor with a lot of smoke and some prickling alcohol. Low cabonation. Heavy and sticky. A true sipper.

fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - SEP 9, 2011
Tasting at Papsø
It pours a very thick and oily black color, with just few sparse bubbles. The aroma is not very strong, but quite interesting, with dusty chocolate, cocoa nibs, coffee grains, tobacco; light cardboard too; it smells almost like an old grocery store in traditional villages. Strong body, the mouthfeel is actually less oily than expected; the flavor is sweet as usual, with very strong chocolate and some more roasted malt in the final; traces of whiskey. Correct bitterness. Well balanced, in its powerdom.

(375ml bottle, BB 15/07/19) Pours a black body with a spare tan head. Aroma of chocolate, whiskey, coffee, some dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavor of roasted malt, whiskey, char, coffee, vanilla, and oak with a dry, bitter finish.

Theis (11077) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 3, 2009
Bottle at Ørsted Ølbar - shared with Sune. Pitch black - brown head. High burned, sweetness, white sugar, high wood, tartness, oakey, coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, whiskey, vanilla. The wood helps this beer a lot - it becomes a lot more smooth and drinkable.....
