4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
37.5 cL bottle. Pours pitch black with a huge, dense and chocolate brown head. Aroma is solid roasted malty, whiskey and coffee. Wooden and yet also hops fruity. Extremely dextrose sweet, roasted, smoked and dark chocolate mixed with hardroasted coffee notes. Thorat burn into the finish. Quite extreme - yet the barrel aging does give this a bit of smoothness and more depth - still way too sweet.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. A pitch black beer - ofcourse ;-) with a dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of roasted malt as well as notes of medium notes of dextrose and a bit of alcohol. The flavor has powerful notes of roasted malt and dextrose as well as medium notes of wood and alcohol, and just a bit of whiskey, leading to a sweet dextrose finish. Too much original black not enough barrel finish for my liking.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours pitch back with a tiny light brown head. Aroma of hard roasted malts, sweet vanilla and whisky with a distinct booziness. Massive body, lots of burned malt, vanilla and dextrose with pleasant whisky accents, ashes and wood. Very boozy finish. Hard to drink and digest, but still quite enjoyable. 030410

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottled@Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma wood, caramel malts, some roasted notes, dark dry fruits, alcohol, liquorice and also mild toffeeish notes. Flavour is quite much the same with alcohol and ashes coming through rather strongly. Also wooden notes are stronger. Nicely balanced wooden notes.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2013 6th June 2010.
RBESG 10 Grand Tasting at the Brasserie 4:20 Warehouse. Big thanks to Alex for allowing us liberate this beer from his warehouse shelves! Black beer. Creamy tan head. Lovely sweet dark malt. Sweet black coffee, a little chocolate and some very well joined up whisky. Finishes warming and a little spicy. Has improved with a few months of aging.

Another 3 years has taken most of the heat off of this beer. But itís also turned quite powdery dry and the coffee is a lot more bitter. Very rich but never an easy drinking beer!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasting at PapsÝ
It pours a very thick and oily black color, with just few sparse bubbles. The aroma is not very strong, but quite interesting, with dusty chocolate, cocoa nibs, coffee grains, tobacco; light cardboard too; it smells almost like an old grocery store in traditional villages. Strong body, the mouthfeel is actually less oily than expected; the flavor is sweet as usual, with very strong chocolate and some more roasted malt in the final; traces of whiskey. Correct bitterness. Well balanced, in its powerdom.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared by Meilby. A black one, topped by a big, tan head. Didnít expect that size of head, but it looks really, really nice, sure deserving a 5 on appearance. Alcohol, burnt malts, whisky and notes of vanilla and soy on the nose. The flavor is pretty much the same, with lots of dark sugary sweetness and a very evident alcohol flavor and mouth warmth. Itís full-bodied and almost sticky on the palate. The finish lasted for a really long time, I still felt the taste of it when I entered the cab to go home after finishing the beer. Well, I liked the beer, but it almost disappointed (sic) after the Islay barrel aged one we had just before this one. 110114
