Bottle about 1.5 years aged. Pitch black body with absolutely no carbonation or head. Aroma is like pinot noir but also has some balsamic vinegar and dark chocolate. The alcohol is still noticeable in the nose though I’d hoped it would have subdued by now. It starts off with a wallop of sweetness and alcohol. The sugary sweetness is almost unnatural and the alcohol is mostly noticeable due to the burn in the mouth. A coffee roast dominates at the finish and in the aftertaste. It’s very thin on the palate and the lack of carbonation doesn’t aid this at all. I can’t envision a scenario where this would be en enjoyable choice.

16.8%ABV. Imperial Stout. Tapped out black. 40şSRM. Nose has sweet dark fruit, liniment, lo han go (fruit of seraitia grosvenorii), maraschino cherries, Turkish coffees, alcohol with a hint of fermented funk. Nose from a distance has some very attractive honey char siew or honeyed Cantonese roast pork aromas, I say distance because even after its done you still get a lot f astringents in the nose suggesting rubbing alcohol. Mouthfeel is alcoholic. Palate has charcoal, burnt toast, honeyed dates, charred driftwood. Overall, an assault on the senses with an almost abusive belligerence. I am soooo happy right now! Goes on Favorites List !

Barwa czarna, nieprzejrzysta.

7.5cl sample at the Ghent Beer Festival VI (22 VIII 2015). Black tanned imperial stout build upon the traditional stout features. Coffee is accompanied by fairly sweet accents. Heavy, truly heavy brew with brown sugar, bitter and malt notes. The aftertaste is so very long and fine. Heavy!

To sum it up: over the top. Blackest of blacks, bitterest of bitters, most alcoholic of stouts. I understand it, you wanna make something harder, sheerer, broader. But this tastes not like beer, but like the hardest linctus. The tasting goes like: it pours pitch black, long-lasting sienna head. Aroma is very high: coffee, liquorice, chicory, burnt caramel, Worcestershire sauce. Taste is sweetish, oily, powerful. Good carb. Finish is bitter as hell and ruins it all, I must say.

375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 10/22/2025. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Incredible appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, prune, cherry, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, wood, and roast/char earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of roasted malt, brown sugar, and fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, raisin, prune, cherry, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, wood, and roast/char earthiness. Large amount of pine/wood char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, dark fruit, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, wood, and roast/char earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of roasted malt, brown sugar, and fruity yeast flavors; with a solid roasted bitter/sweet balance; and some astringent roasted character lingering after the finish, but not overbearing. Light-moderate increasing dryness due to strong bitterness as well. Light carbonation and full body; with a very creamy/slick and sticky/resinous/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish for a while. Overall this is a very nice huge imperial stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of roasted malt, brown sugar, and fruity yeast flavors; and fairly smooth to sip on for the enormous ABV. This was quite strong on bitterness, but some good age should tone down the bitter hop/char character to more sensible levels. This was still very enjoyable, but a very slow sipper.

First impressions on the nose are acetate, nail polish remover and the taste confirms with hot alcohol. Sampled version is 2012 vintage so probably not going to get any better. Apart from that there is nothing going on in this beer - no complex flavours. Disappointing.
