Black. Thin dark brown head. Aromas are rich sweet dried prunes, coffee, leather, chocolate, raisins... WOW! Alcohol is there, but not aparent. Flavor is initially big black licorice, sweet dark chocolate, figs - no, scratch that - black strap molasses with raisin tar. Then finishing back into black licorice with a touch of astringency. This beer just doesn’t finish! Roasted nuts, tobacco, leather, dark rum... should age well for 20+ years if anyone has the patience... Tasted May 21, 2008 - Bottle from John’s Market Place in Portland.

Bottle from 2010 shared with BBGTC. Pours a black body with a medium tanned head. Aroma is sweet, alcoholic and roasty. Taste is extremly sweet and somewhat cloying. Moderate roast and alcohol. Hints of tar, leather and bitter coffee. Body is slick and soft co2.

375 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Very, very deep black-brown with a full mocha head. Aroma: Deep, dark and black with roasted, nearly burnt malt, SO much alcohol, cooked green pepper and peppercorns, intense...too much. Palate: Full-bodied with minimal carbonation. Flav.: Much like the nose with some additional slight additional depth from molasses, still REALLY boozy; sweet with big bitterness and HUGE moth-numbing alcohol.

Completely over-the-top. I regret opening this alone.

Draught at Craft Beer Co, Clerkenwell. Poured a thick black, with a dense tan head. Aroma of burnt sugar, roasted malt, liquorice and Oxo. Thick, full mouthfeel. Burnt malt flavours, with treacle, soy sauce, some grassy hop. Finish was earthy, with whisky, booze and rum.

On tap at Mikkeller Bangkok. Pours pitch black with a coffee head. Smells coffee malty heaven. Tastes big, bold, black, and beautiful. There is no other way to describe it. This is my new favorite beer.

Part of the 2014 Mikkeller feature at the LCBO. The beer pours a solid black with a generous dark brown bubbly head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, molasses, and soy sauce. The mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is roasted malt, smoked wood, coffee, and anise. Finish is very bitter, almost rubber flavoured. Alcohol was well hidden, but not what I was expecting, and quite a letdown.
