2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
A: Appropriately, the beer pours black in color. It also has no head, but I guess Iím not surprised.
S: Doesnít smell anywhere near as offensive as I feared. Booze, certainly, but itís mostly just roasted malts. There is a hint of ash and burnt sugar, maybe some licorice, too.
T: Although the aroma wasnít too bad, the flavor is quite another story. Lots of tar flavor accompanied by sugar. There is more tar and asphalt, followed by booze. A very intense licorice flavor, almost like anise extract. A bit of burnt sugar and prunes.
M: Medium to full bodied with very low carbonation.
O: The aroma was pleasantly surprising, but the flavor was just unfortunate.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pitch black, solid beige head. Aroma is massive and full of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, licorice, dried fruits. In taste sweet with roastiness, chocolate, dried fruits, molasses, licorice. Alcohol is showing only with the warming effect. All is finished with strong bitterness, although the beer is still wuite sweet in the finish. Very thick, oily in texture, full bodied, softly carbonated. One of the best in the style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle at home from notes. Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is big roasted malt, ash, chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla with some coffee. The flavor is much of the same; dark roasted malt, chocolate, char, some smoke, dark fruit and caramel, boozy, very warming alcohol, big beer, had one years later that had mellowed a bit but still carried a pop.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a thick black with mocha head. You should probably drink this with a spoon. Aromas are sweet cream, coconut milk, raspberry jam. Very dark chocolate flavours, a tang of raspberry, creamy, and of course booze. But itís too be expected..but considering itís 17% quite drinkable.
