A: Appropriately, the beer pours black in color. It also has no head, but I guess I’m not surprised. S: Doesn’t smell anywhere near as offensive as I feared. Booze, certainly, but it’s mostly just roasted malts. There is a hint of ash and burnt sugar, maybe some licorice, too. T: Although the aroma wasn’t too bad, the flavor is quite another story. Lots of tar flavor accompanied by sugar. There is more tar and asphalt, followed by booze. A very intense licorice flavor, almost like anise extract. A bit of burnt sugar and prunes. M: Medium to full bodied with very low carbonation. O: The aroma was pleasantly surprising, but the flavor was just unfortunate.

Aroma: dried plums, classy alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste: really bitter, coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, hops and really full body. Small head, good lacing and medium carbonation.

Purchased in July 2015 enjoyed November 13, 2015 in a MadTree tulip/snifter. Look - Pours brown, not black. Finger of frothy tan head (fine to large bubbled). Little lacing. Settles to a ring. Smell - Chocolate. Coffee. Char. Toffee. Alcohol. Taste - Chocolate masks booze well. First sip was spicy. Warmth improves it. Bubblegum on end. Feel - Chewy. Thick. Stings tongue. Burns. Overall - Finishing this by yourself is a task. Time to go to bed.

bottle. dark black pour, massive tan head. Sharp roasty smoke and coffee. Whisky and alcohol, very strong and boozy. Bit of a weird bitter aftertaste. Its a flavour bomb, there is just too much going on here to be a truly enjoyable beer.

Bottle pour motor oil black and thick with huge tan head with good retention. Nose dark fruit, light roast, boozy. Taste sweet dark fruit, light bitter, roasted malt, chocolate. All the while some underlying heat from alcohol. Almost light smoke on the finish.

Tap pours motor oil black with a nice dark brown head and amazing lacing. Nose of burnt char dark chocolate green apples huge alcohol. Being brave on this one. Huge flavors mostly char and green apples this beer is very young and needs lots of age. Long char finish. Its pretty simple huge brutal brew.

Juste impressionnant.

1/16/2011 2:30:16 AM On tap at Beer Temple. Darkest brown, tall mocha head. Bourbon nose. Taste is quite sweet, creme brullee like. Espresso. But way too strong to be enjoyable. Too much for me.

Pours a huge frothy brownish head and has a dark black appearance. Pretty thick sticky lacing. Pours out fairly thick as well, almost like motor oil. Aromas of raisins, dark roasted malts, chocolate and molasses.. High abv is actually fairly noticeable. Flavours are a mixture of sweet and roasted malts, notes of dries fruits (raisins, plums). Once again, alcohol is quite noticeable, warming up your throat every sip. Not offensive at all, just definitely a strong mouthfeel and tingly sensation on the palate. Much more of a sipping beer.
