Snojerk321 (1918), San Diego, California, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle from Tornado in San Diego. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head, Tones of pine ad floral hops on the nose. Had a good malt balance beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Aug 15, 2008 This American Pale ale pours a medium amber brown color from a 50cl bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is piney hops and caramel malts. A medium bodied American Pale Ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet. The hops are piney and citrusy. Very aggressively hopped for an APA, yet despite all the bitterness there is a nice malt backbone. Nice balance. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter. Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle shared by sick boy282. Pours with an amber body topped by a medium thick head with a good amount of lacig left behind. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a grapefruity hop note adn light alcohol esters. Medium to full bodied, resiny and slightly dry. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Aug 12, 2008 Bottle at home purchased from Cave Direct Beer Merchants (Mixed case of Mikkeller Beer) Pours orange amber with a wonderful clarity, off white head. Tasting hoppier than the Struisse Mikkeller beer had earlier, hops very fresh and zingy. Pithy and resiny hops, finish is quite dry, very good beer. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 11, 2008 17-Jun-08 (500-ml bottle: Purchased 02-May-08 for $8.99 at Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido, CA) A gorgeous beer in the glass, the hazy, deep-amber body is capped by a generous, off-white layer of foam that shows superb retention. The sweet aroma of caramely malts are framed by a bouquet of sweet citrus, grapefruit, pine, earth and dust. On the palate, the entry shows a nice balance of moderately sweet, caramely malts and a complex hop profile of citrus and pine, but the beer soon exhibits far more earth, dust and resiny pine in the evolution and finish. The aggressive, hoppy bitterness builds over a few sips and quickly becomes unbalanced and unrelenting. Medium to full bodied on the palate with moderate carbonation, a crisp, bitter mouthfeel, and a very dry, almost astringent finish. This is a hop monster in the West Coast style, but the fact that it’s made in Denmark shows that even European brewers are embracing the aggressive use of hops. But for my tastes, it’s a bit too resiny and bitter. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle. A clean dark golden brown color with a big foamy off-white head. A wonderfully hoppy bouquet with citrus and mild sweetness. Earthy and dry on the palate with well balanced malts, honey, and citrus flavors. Really nice! It is a step above a great West Coast APA, but at $12/bottle it would be hard to return to this one. Aroma - Honey, light fruit, citrus, pine, spice
Appearance - Creamy off white head over a hazy orange pour, stringy and sticky lace
Flavor - Grapefruit comes through quickly over the light maltiness and fruit flavors, leading to a long, bitter finish.
Palate - Medium body, light carbonation, mildly resinous, quite dry
Overall - I thought this was bit unbalanced, with the hops being too assertive relative to the malts. Still, it’s a good APA. Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Aug 5, 2008 Amber and clear. Has a fine head, mostly lasting. Odd aroma, chalk. Hoppy notes too. Medium to full body, soft carbonation.
