Ins Glas ergießt sich ein kupferfarbenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, hefig, würzig, blumig. Geschmack hefig fruchtig, Gewürze, Karamell, blumig.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a huge thick long lasting white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian yeast phenols, pepper, grass, light sour brett characteristics round out the nose and some fruity esthers... Very complex. Flavor is pepper yeasty phenols, light fruity like brett, woody and grassy hops round out the flavor. Finishes semi dry with a moderate low hop bite and a medium carbonation. Really a quite enjoyable Belgian ipa that has some sourness.

Bottle. Aroma bubble gum, juicy sour. Tempting. Amber colour. Taste has the same bubble gum and rather restrained sourness. Moderately strong barnyard aromas. Good introductory farmhouse ale. But lacks more character and courage.

Bottled. Aroma is sour like a lambic, sour plums, bitter malt, very sour fruity. Color is amber golden brown. Head disappeared in no time. Taste is sour plums, dark bitter fruits. Quite refreshing due to its abv. Overall not my type, but drinkable.

Draught at Publick House, 3/2/14
Deep amber colored beer with plentiful off-white head.
Pure brett acids and light amber malts in the nose. Ok, I can get in to this. Lovely spice from the styrian hops and just full and lush and sniffable. Didnt realize what this beer was when I had it and needless to say, I was very very happy. The hops are done very well; extremely well hopped golden beer. Nicely spicy, earthy and a touch grainy, but very acidic in a brett sort of way.
I swear this tastes barrel-aged, not that I think we really got an unexpected barrel-aged version, but there do seem to be woody, liqueur-like notes. Slightly fruity and maybe it’s just the extent of the raw hoppiness, which is indeed delicious. Anyways, this is a hell of a tribute to Orval, tough to compare to Matilda, as it’s a little bit maltier and more complex, but still very delicious.

Bottle. Pours a near clear gold with a large white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a bit of light tart fruit with some tropical fruits and a good amount of citrus. Flavor has more grassy hops with a bit of citrus and tropical fruits with a bread backbone.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 26 Feb 2014) Reddish amber colour with dense, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, citrus and slightly sour hints of oak wood. Malty, fruity taste with slightly sourish notes of dried fruit, caramel, citrus, oak wood, peppery yeast and hints of sweet and sour berries. Slightly bitter-sweet finish. Medium body, with a certain sweetness. A slightly peculiar yeast character, almost leaning in the direction of Flemish red, makes it quite strange. But refreshing. Nice one.

Bottle, Brew Dog.com. Poured a hazy amber colour with a generous off-white head. Nose was citrus, hop and brett. Flavour showed yeast, fruits, a little funk and dried out towards the finish. Not in Orval’s league but a very handy stab.
