(From notes 9 Nov, 2012) Tap. Large, very thick, brown head. Black pour. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Flavor is... coffee, bitter. Creamy mouthfeel. Finish bitter coffee. Slight sweetness. Enjoyed this one much too cold. With some imagination, I can tell this would be better when it’s warmer (taken into account in the score).

Draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft.

On tap at CASK with Sarah. Pours black with a dark chocolate brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong acidic coffee not with a bit of dark grain and roast malts. Flavor has intense coffee with acid, roasted malts and just a bit of dark chocolate.

Proefglaasje van ’t vat bij Hoppy Loft. Heel donker bruin / licht zwart, kleine beige / chocolade mousse kraag dat redelijk stabiel blijft. Ruikt redelijk zwaar naar geroosterde mout, lichtjes verbrand, toets van aarde, heel donkere chocolade. Smaakt redelijk sterk naar bittere verbrande mout, stuk zwarte aarde, heel donkere chocolade, steenkool, slechts heel lichte zoete toets, drop, pure cacao, onbewerkt, lichte kruiden.

On tap at Craft Beer Co., London. Very handsome pour, thick without being overly sludgy and topped by a nice, sticky beige head. Strong chocolate notes in the nose, along with sharp roasted malts and a touch of sweet booze. Deep milk chocolate flavors and strong espresso taste, just about ideal for a stout of this character.

Super coffee aroma. Not just aroma, it’s everywhere. Yummy, no other word for it. Nice balance. So full and sticky, but you want it coating your mouth, so that’s a positive. Once again, I can forgive them for "cheating" and just flinging coffee into beer, as the result justifies the method.

Keg at the Cask, Pimlico -21/08/12. Rich dark black with a mocha head that soon thins and provides plenty of lacing. Muted roast malts and coffee on the nose. Plenty of espresso in the taste, bitter chocolate, licquorice and a little mineral taste. Lightish medium bodied, surprisingly so for 7% ABV. Smooth feel let down slightly by a little overly prickly carbonation leading to a dry finish.

Keg at Craft Beer Co., London. Thanks to Tom, who bought me the beer, then left it on the bar for abour 10 minutes before I asked him what happened to it and he realized he had forgotten to bring it over. Pours black with a foamy, beige foam head. Nice coffee roast nose, some licorice. Medium sweet flavor, rich mocha, dirt, some tobacco and ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Deep, roasty finish, lots of rich chocolate, espresso, dirty bitterness. Excellent beer.
