Tap @ EBF, 2008, Carlsberg.
Pours completely black with a small, brown, film head. Aroma is sweet, has coffee and wood, lightly tart fruit and quite vinious. Okay mouthfeel, just a tad too high in carbonation, never letting the beer settle well. Flavour is weird, sweet, some saltiness and very medicinic wood. Not very good - incredibly unbalanced.

Black with medium beige head. Sweet and rather vinious aroma with roasted malt caramel, coffee and vanilla notes. Flavour is sweet with roasted malt, alcohol, chocolate, vanilla and coffee notes towards the end. Warming alcohol finishes it.

Sampled at EBF2008. Pours a black beer with a lightbrown head. The aroma is coffee and chocolate with some vanilla and acidity from the barrelaging. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, licorice and coffee. Has a little bitterness in the aftertaste, and gives a beer above average.

Cask @ EBF 2008. Indeed, balck as coal. Creamy aroma with malt and licorice. Roast flavor with grapes, cream and flowery hops. Powerful but quite delicious.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2008 Draught at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. Very black. Intense aroma of vanilla, menthe and tar. Sweet and compact. Powerful and woody with tocbacco and tar in sugar. Thanks to excellent well structured soft malt the inetnse sweetness doesn’t go overboard. A really complex mega-beer that works very well.

From tap. Pour dark brown to black with a lacing tan chocolate brown head. Aroma is mild chocolate malty with a light hopy note and smooth fruity accent. Smoked and lingering sweet flavour with a solid hoppy bitterness into the finish. Nice marmelade fruity and sweet mix. Nicely balanced and lasting into the far finish. Quite close to the brunch brew. Rated on the toilet, what a pleasure....:)

UPDATED: APR 13, 2009 (Bottled) Almost black with a large, foamy and beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, slight burnedness and vegetably starch. Very malty, sweetish flavor with lots of licorice, strong hop bitterness, some starchiness, lightly burned. Long, bitter aftertaste. Quite full, syrupy body with lowish carbonation. A very tasty and pleasant Impy with maybe a slightly too starchy feel for perfection - but a great beer nevertheless. (Draught, was 7-4-9-5-17=4.2) Almost black with a very small, beige head. Roasted-malty, fruity aroma with vanilla hints. Intense but smooth roasted-malty flavor with lots of vanilla, tar, some oak, sweetish. Very balanced despite the slight alcohol. Pretty full-bodied, no carbonation. Nice!
