25 cl bottle. Ebony with a creamy and coating tan head. Nose is licorice, molasses, dark chocolate, oak, raisin and hay. Body is equally as lush. Silky and syrupy with a delightful tickle. Taste is blackberry puree, espresso, chocolate syrup and oak. Finishes with tart elderberry and cocoa powder. Great barrel aging.

Thnx to Meerbier. Black colored brew. Ashy aroma, coffee and iodine. Flavor has a lot of alcohol, coffee, dried fruits, sweetness, vanilla and iodine. Odd, but enjoyable.

Bottle@Home. Ashes, iodine and coffee aroma. Pitch black, light brown head, fair lace. Sweet, bitter, iodine, medicinal but all in a good way. Heavy, powerful, hard to drink but wonderful.

Bottle found in special outside beer box, bought at the European beer festival in Copenhagen quite some time back. Heavy alc, smoked honey, resin nose. Pitch oily black with no head nor lace but solid legs. Thick syrup, fine carb’d paltte. A lot more balanced than than thought, even though well split. Heavy sugary start with a very bitter herbal medi aftertaste an ginger in the middle. Odd but lovable!

(Bottle, bought at Ölbutikken, Copenhagen, summer 2009) Pitch black colour with huge, foamy, brown head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, sweet espresso, tar, vanilla, cocoa and dark fruit. Malty, roasted, taste with notes of espresso, liquorice, dark fruit, wood, tar and vanilla. Sweet, warming finish with a generous coffee bitterness and some alcohol shining through. Full body, fairly sweet. Smooth, rounded mouthfeel. All in all in excellent balance. Lovely beer!

Bottle shared at a BA/RB tasting... Poured near black with amber highlights and fluffy, off-white head. Whiskey tones, cigar-like smokiness, roasted malts with a little bit of boozy tone. Dark fruits, coffee, nutty tones. Cool-ass bottle and label on this one.

Bottle (2008)… Pours viscuous and black with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. Good retention. The aroma is a complex mélange of dark, dried, vinous fruits – prunes and dark raisins – alongside bold notes of blackstrap molasses, fennel, licorice, crusted port and a moderate red apple component. Full-bodied and silky with gentle carbonation. The flavor provides a big-time element of mocha flanking all the sweet, dark, dried fruits and crusted port essences shared with the nose. Restrained, acrid, carbonaceous bitterness. Mocha, medium sherry finish. Age and oxygen have really done a nice number on this beer. Based solely on much older ratings, I think that what I’m drinking here is more like a port or liqueur than the barrel-aged imperial stout that was released back in mid 2008. World class ale provided by Grovlam!
