Bottle shared at a BA/RB tasting... Poured near black with amber highlights and fluffy, off-white head. Whiskey tones, cigar-like smokiness, roasted malts with a little bit of boozy tone. Dark fruits, coffee, nutty tones. Cool-ass bottle and label on this one.

Bottle (2008) Pours viscuous and black with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. Good retention. The aroma is a complex mlange of dark, dried, vinous fruits prunes and dark raisins alongside bold notes of blackstrap molasses, fennel, licorice, crusted port and a moderate red apple component. Full-bodied and silky with gentle carbonation. The flavor provides a big-time element of mocha flanking all the sweet, dark, dried fruits and crusted port essences shared with the nose. Restrained, acrid, carbonaceous bitterness. Mocha, medium sherry finish. Age and oxygen have really done a nice number on this beer. Based solely on much older ratings, I think that what Im drinking here is more like a port or liqueur than the barrel-aged imperial stout that was released back in mid 2008. World class ale provided by Grovlam!

bottle on 2/16/10. midstbar 12/31/2012. dark orange- brown tinted black pour with a tan head and random splotches of foam. wow, its got that new tire smell!... other aromas of green wood, ash, rubber bands, prunes, brown sugar, molasses, salame, vitamin pills and wet forest.. pretty much a lot of black stuff. the flavor is odd and oddly the same as the aroma only on the terribly sweet side of brown sugar. ashiness, tannins and dry hoppiness do what they can to help balance... but, its all in vain. ooo, coffee finally shows up to produce a nice aftertaste. medium-full body feels kinda flat and dead on the tongue...7/4/6/3/13/3.3

OK, so my tasting notes were altered ex-post fact, by a sneaky rater (you know who you are!) Although this was the last beer (for me) of a very long night of tasting and sharing, I remember this one being tasty enough, with lots of roasted coffee and chocolate, but not too much else.

Big roasty, chocolate, coffee nose. Very sweet, lots of chocolate, lots of caramel and toffee, dark fruit, decent oak, etc. Nothing special.

bottle courtesy of deflagro, thanks buddy! pours very black, nice head with a bit of cascading, looks like jagermeister with foam. aroma of licorice, rubber clothing, booze and chocolate, smells like jagermeister. taste is rich and salty, has a tingly aftertaste, like blood. or jagermeister. thick, coating mouthfeel, very syrupy, sweet and bitter at the same time, like jagermeister. aftertaste almost tastes just like jagermeister. damn good stuff, feel like going outside on a cold night naked with this stuff.

Its highly carbonated, it pours black as coal with a huge beige head. Roasted malt aroma, liquorice, wood, light vanilla, smoke, cardboard and light sourness. The mouthfeel surprises for its smoothness; excellent combination of chocolate and roasted malt flavor, almost perfect, silky and powerful, with a minimal roasted malt sourness. The final is still powerful and balanced, a bit salty, and never too alcoholic. Excellent.

(25cl bottle) Pours an opaque black body that coats glass like oil and has a small creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and wood. Flavor of roasted malt, chocolate, light vanilla, and coffee with a dry finish. Excellent!
