3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fin (6180) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 26, 2008
Had this at European Beer Festival, Kobenhaven 12-09-08 . Poured shark eye black which in my book is a little bit darker than coal, so maybe Mr Mikkeller should rename this ’Mikkeller Shark Eye Black’ very thick consistency, nice oily hops, oily texture, bitter coffee, bitter chocolate, some dark fruit. They’ve certainly packed a lot into this beer but they can and did do better stuff at this beer festival.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rune (6125) - Tromsø, NORWAY - OCT 17, 2008
250ml bottle bought at Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Dark as black coal. Initial brownish head with round dimples. Smell of dark fruits and malt - the aroma could be described as dark grapefruit. Flavoured with dark fruits in gently interplay with sweet, milk chocolate sustained by underlying alcohol. Nice and lingering endnotes. Full bodied. Heavy stuff (shared with Finn, Tromsø 13.10.2008).
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Skinnyviking (5956) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 18, 2008
Bottle. High creamy lasting and good looking dark brown head. No light coming through this pitch black body. Powerful coffee choccolate aroma with a good deal of alcohol, not too much though, a good deal of hops, vanilla and woody notes as well. High carbonation, strong coffee choccolate alcohol flavor with long lasting hops bitterness. Would not have guessed the alcohol percentage but it does feel a bit too strong in the flavor.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ibrew2or3 (5777) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JUL 29, 2009
Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours very dark with short lived dark brown head. The aroma is full bold oakiness with creamy molasses, toffee, coffee and dark chocolate. The taste is effervescence pushing up notes of burnt molasses, toffee and coffee. To midway rich velvety dark chocolate and oak join the other rich flavors along with a decent level of booze. It becomes smooth rich nectar sweet into the finish. WOW!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Plovmand (5712) - Helsinge, DENMARK - MAR 23, 2009
Bottle. Body is Black as Coal with a creamy tan head. Heavy roasty aroma with a very vinous touch. Chocolate, hops, tobacco and coffee notes. Some alcohol as well. Sweet malty flavour. Oak is very present and it has a bourbon touch which makes it rather spicy. I catch pepper and sweet tobacco as well. The alcohol is present but it makes up for the heavy roasted malt. It ends up sweet, spicy and hoppy. I love it and I need to get another to cellar for a couple of years.

Bottle at chris_o’s pre beerexposed tasting. Alround rating: Hoppy slightly plasticy nose, incredibly roasty burnt tar like character, pritty overpowering bitterness. Not my deal.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Hansen (5449) - Assentoft, DENMARK - SEP 29, 2008
Dark, dark brown, black. Has a beige head, fully lasting. Aroma has a lot of dark notes too, coffee, burnt malt, roasted notes, real dark. Warming alcohol. Flavor is moderate sweet and heavy bitter. Full body. Soft carbonation.

Bottle shared by after4ever. Thanks Tom! Lots of dark malts in the aroma, somewhat vinous with a noticeable tart characteristic from the oak barrels. Some alcohol almost vodka notes wafting toward the nose as well. Pours black - go figure - with a thin tan ring. The nose proved to be a bit misleading as I got a good amount of sweet chocolate in the flavor followed by roast and burnt malts. Some oak and wood notes from the barrel aging but mostly sweet chocolate and burnt malts in this one. Nice smoothing drinking with a pleasant bitterness to round everything out.

250. Thanks, Thewolf! Jet black with a few burnt brown bubbles. Sweetish plummy vanilla nose. Body’s not much above medium. Creamy. Plum, vanilla, and roast on the mid-palate. Sweet finish of medium duration. Delicious, complex, and interesting.
