A Mes rate. Bottle thanks to the top bloke that is Harrisoni. Well, black as coal is certainly right. The initial pillowy tan head has now settled to a faint collar but nae bother. Aroma is rich as hell and certainly warming but maybe just a little too tarry for me to really get my rocks off. The flavour however is full on pan handle material. I’ve only had a few sips and already there are little coals of joy stoking up a bonfire in my belly. Massive Mikkeller craziness. Dark and dominating, demanding I don a gimp mask and let it put clamps on me turnips. Somehow I stay focussed and out of S&M gear and carry on drinking. The alcohol is huge and kicks a path to your stomach leaving a perverted sting in its wake. Plenty of brute force is added by some insane hoppage which links up with with some fat chewy malt that it finds down an alleyway and they both slap you round the head til you are short of breath. More punch is added by some angry carbonation which you can feel aaaaaall the way down baby. Mad as an angry spanner munching frog. Tastier than Sophie Ellis Bextor. Yet another thing to love Mikkeller for...

Pours pitch black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, chocolate, tobacco, coffee, oak and alcohol. Taste is heavy sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, sweet, chocolate, oak, coffee and licorice finish. Body is full, texture is oily to sticky, carbonation is soft.

Copenhagen. Indeed ’black as coal’. Dark chocolate coloured foamy head. Soft palate. Rich beer! Minerally chocolate and coffee with a definite alcohol spice. Woody sweetness and a very warming finish.

25 cl bottle @ Panimoravintola Beer Hunter’s. 2008 vintage. BBE 12/2012.
Pours pitch black color with small beige head on the sides. Aroma of peat, vanilla notes, mild chocolate, some ripe dark fruits, mild hops and some liquorice notes. Flavor of vanilla, peat, chocolate, mild dark berries and some bourbon. Quite aggressive taste, long peaty palate.

Aroma is rather nice with whiskey, smoke, some licorice, hints of ash, vanilla and cocoa. Flavour is rather woody with licorice, some smoke, licorice, tobacco, hints of ash and vanilla. Dry finish. A bit too woody but nice anyway.

Bottle: Thanks to Sfhodense. Yes, a completely motoroil black as night pour with a good pretty vast (darker) brown head. Looks good. Smell is a big bomb of liquorice, coffee, burnt malts, spices, coal, earth, espresso, yeast Taste coffee, earth, wood/oak, liquorice, earth, good firm bitter, hint of sticky burnt sweets, hint of alcohol, dark fruit: raisin. A good full bodied, but slightly strange balanced, still good, bodied tasting beer. Spicy bitter burnt wood coffee aftertaste. The roasted sweets, coffee, light earth and firm bitterness stays in the aftertaste for a long time. (Thats good!) Low carbo, full body, soft creamy/oily mouthfeel and a (creamy) oily sticky texture. Talking about a big impy.

25 cl bottle. Ebony with a creamy and coating tan head. Nose is licorice, molasses, dark chocolate, oak, raisin and hay. Body is equally as lush. Silky and syrupy with a delightful tickle. Taste is blackberry puree, espresso, chocolate syrup and oak. Finishes with tart elderberry and cocoa powder. Great barrel aging.

Thnx to Meerbier. Black colored brew. Ashy aroma, coffee and iodine. Flavor has a lot of alcohol, coffee, dried fruits, sweetness, vanilla and iodine. Odd, but enjoyable.
