3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Sigmund (4162) - Tau, NORWAY - SEP 30, 2008
250 ml bottle, shared with Ole_R, thx! ABV was 11.5%. "Imperial Rauchbier / Rauchwine" brewed with honey, and stored 3 months in a new oak barrel. Deep copper coloured beer, low beige head. Intense aroma of smoke and oak. The flavour is very smoky and oaky as expected, with notes of charcoal, but is also surprisingly fruity and sweet with notes of raisins and fortified wine.

Tasting with Casey, Traci, Craig, Stella and Loz 27-09-08 this bottle brought along by Craig This is one of those rare things, a real shocker from Mikkeller. The aroma is not unlike a hospital incinerator, yep plenty of smoke on the nose but burning bandages and all manner of medical refuse, interesting and very different maybe but not the least bit appealing. The flavour is antiseptic and smoky with much alcohol. Credit where credit is due Mikkeller do push the boundaries and I love them for that approach but with this one they should have stopped a few kilometres back down the road not my thing at all and my first tipped beer from Mikkeller.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MiP (12136) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - SEP 21, 2008
Bottle, 11.5%. Good smoky aroma, charcoal, old bonfire. Cloudy dark brown colour, a bit muddy. Good smoky flavour, quite sweet and with plenty of alcohol. The alcohol finish burns a bit. I like my Rauchbier light and cleansing.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 JorisPPattyn (7300) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 21, 2008
No head ot speak of, over quite hazy red-brown beer. Nice smoked nose, black cardemoms if ever, fresh pipe tobacco and lurking brandy-like alcohol. Very alcoholic taste, with expressly smoked notes (woodfire), sweet, and again black cardemom. Very slick, oily, velvety MF and of course full bodied. Ah, this is again a quite nice one. I like Baadi elachi, and I wonder if it is ever really used. Hint, hint,...

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 yespr (25930) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2008
25 cL bottle. Pours hazy deep brown with a lacing off-white head. Dense smoked aroma with a herbal note. tarish. Flavour is solid caramel malty with a light acidic note and more smoke coming through in a tarish way. Growing acidic note that seems rather disharmonious to the good smoke notes. Bitter and acidic finish. Smells nice but the flavour really puts me off.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Skinnyviking (5944) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 16, 2008
Bottle. Low and quickly disappearing off-whithe fluffy head. Hazy ruby body. Pretty strong smoke aroma, more a cigar than an ciggy in my opinion, pleasant wood-like in my opinion though. Vineous notes. Flavor equally smole dominated, so strong that I could taste nothing else, maybe a bit of ferries. Low carbonation and a long smoke aftertaste. Mild smooth without much hops bitterness.
