4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle Amber to copper, deep brown body. Off-white head. Aroma of smoke, wine, red port, hints of smoked bacon, barrels, grapes, caramel malts, fenols and 4VG. Quite nice aroma, at first I thought it to be very smokey, but it is actually quite complex, also due to barel aging. Heavily (bit harsh) bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Fully bodied, averagily carbonated. Combines mellowness of barel aging very good with the smked malts. Quite nice beer.

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Nice head, modest turbid. The beer starts strong-malty, also very smoky, notes of bacon, raisins and plums. A bit yeasty. Well balanced, warming finish, a little bit alcoholic. Very good! Thanks yespr for this bottle!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the description this sounds pretty damn good. 25cL bottle, Holdbar til 31/12/2012. Thank you Craig--cgarvieuk--for the bottle. Clear reddish copper with a small beige head, fading to a thick ring and miniscule swirling film. Big peated malt and smoked beef jerky up front with a good dry vanilla and oak backend. Thereís also some sweet caramel malt and raisin notes. Flavor is pretty big--I thought it would be dominated by the smoke, but I donít feel thatís the case. Plenty of sweet raisiny and caramel malty notes to keep the dryness in check. I donít pick up on a lot of oak, though it is definitely there. Dunno what they were going for as far as the oak characteristic goes, but three months for French oak isnít that long. Some alcohol burn in the finish, that did still end up dry. Bitterness peaked at a 3. Full body with low to moderate prickly carbonation. Very good, if a little underrated, smoked. This kind of reminds me of DFH Immort Ale--which I loved.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cellared for about seven month after I bought the 250ml bottle at Mikkeller Special Release Event, Copenhagen Sept. 08. Off-white ring around the rim of the glass. Deep dark russet-brown body with good clarity, more opaque after the second pour with some of the sediments. Strong peaty smoked aroma with malty notes. Immediate smoked flavour gradually pushed into the background by dried and dark fruits, almost like sweet, fruity jam. Lasting bitter ending. The warming brandy alcohol is nicely integrated in an almost perfect crafted interpretation of the style (just the right one on a Black Friday eve, TromsÝ 10.04.2009).

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
25cl bottle from the special opening on Saturday during Copenhagen BF 2008. Smoke and barley wine on the aroma. It is a bit like cigarette smoke which is a bit weird. Clearly a rauch barley wine from the aroma. The stale cigarette smoke carries on into the mouth. The sweetness of the barley wine character kicks in. This brings some decent dark red/black fruits. As the smoke fades, the barley wine comes through. Mouthfeel is fullish due to the alcohol and the fruits. The jammy fruit is really quite attractive. Finish has more ashy smoke, but also a bit of acidity on the jam fruit. The fruit I think is excellent, but Iím just not sure the smokiness blends with it too well. The fruit though is quite gorgeous. Not sure the whole works. Lovely sweet strawberry jam with a bit of tartness on finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a moisty redish dark brown with a tanned head. that rather quickly fades away. The nose is dominated of the smoked - burned branshes, ashtrays with vinoes undertones - so different and interesting. The taste is deep and sweet with an oily sna smooth palate. Besides the smokyness, that reminds me of both fine scottich whiskys from the Islands up there and the terible experience of drinking a beer that have been used as an ashtray while you were busy on the dansefloor, it also has a side of dry fruits like plumps and raisins and some dominating alcohol notes. Its agressiv and smooth at the same time. The finish is pickeling smokey like juniper berry branch-smoked sousages - quite good and different

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
25cl bottle. Dark, slightly hazy red with smallish beige head. Very smoky nose, no BBQ or sausages, but rather realistic burning wood, islay whiskey, little oak, so honest and warming. Interesting flavor with lively mentholey spicy hops, barrel and a soothing sweet caramelly smoky finish. Some alcohol, Impy style wood chips and powdered salty liquorice in there too. Almost full bodied, smooth warming palate. Great beer, I really dig the idea of a rauchwine.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
250ml nip shared by after4ever. Pours a cloudy rusty amber brown color with very little head. Nose is pure camp fire and smoked meat with some malty sweetness down low. Taste is more of the same, but the sweet caramel comes through a bit more and the abv warms a bit on the way down. I am a sucker for smoked beers, so I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing this treat Tom!

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Copenhagen, Feb 09. Not one of my favourite Mikkellers, but a decent beer. It pours a very hazy dark amber with a small amount of faint off-white head. The nose is very strongly smokey with peat and tar. Body is full with more smoke, mollassess and oak. Is a bit too sharp from the high alcohol content.
