8oz bottle courtesy of hopscotch. Pours a reddish brown with almost no head. Lightly carbonated. Huge smoke nose. Like sticking your nose in a bottle of Lagavulin but with some light acidity that detracts slightly. Flavor thankfully shows no imperfections. Huge smokiness meets a extremely refined and complex malt backbone reminiscent of an english barley wine. Nice fruity flavors with a finish hint of smoke. Totally my kind of beer. Stunning.

Bottle (2008)… This beer rocks!… Murky, burnt caramel ale with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The earthy, malty, smoky aroma presents caramel, wood, campfire, leather and the threat of lactic acid. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and restrained carbonation. The flavor doesn’t deliver the expected lactic acid, but does offer gobs of caramel and fantastic essences of brown sugar, charcoal, English hops, alcohol warmth and light smoke. Surprisingly, I’m not picking up any wood here. Sweet, earthen finish. Kudos to Grovlam for bringing this world class beer with him across the pond!

No head ot speak of, over quite hazy red-brown beer. Nice smoked nose, black cardemoms if ever, fresh pipe tobacco and lurking brandy-like alcohol. Very alcoholic taste, with expressly smoked notes (woodfire), sweet, and again black cardemom. Very slick, oily, velvety MF and of course full bodied. Ah, this is again a quite nice one. I like Baadi elachi, and I wonder if it is ever really used. Hint, hint,...

It’s hazy red-brown with a small dense head. The aroma has notes of smoke, roasted malt, sweetness, raisin, caramel and slightly fruity hops. The flavour has sweetness, but not too strong, and notes of smoke, roasted malt, caramel, oak, tannic-acid and the finish is very long. It’s a very, very nice smoked beer.

Papsoe with an amazing gem, thanks! Reddish/brown pour. Light head. Aroma is ham, bacon, sweet malt, and syrup. Sweet and smoke with a bit of band aids. Damn good. Thanks Henrik!

Nip bottle, BB 12/31/12. Poured rich reddish-amber with a short, but easily-resuscitated beige head. The aroma picked up a hefty dose of campfire smoked very well integrated with darker fruits and honey.. some peppery notes around the nose.. vinous character right on the back.. loved it! The favor found tangy oak and smoke on the tip of the tongue, with honey, biscuity notes, and licorice following.. smoked malt again played well with the other components, and it gave a find grand finale (paired with a bit of barrel).. sweet and smoky on the finish, leaving excellent belly warmth. Heavier-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. felt good. Loved it!

Bottle at home - shared with Mette, the night before I leave for GABF. Murkey red/brown (mahogony) - small fast disappearing offwhite head. What a lovely aroma of: smoke, nuts, chocolate, light roasted, wood, oak and tobacco. Taste: Wood, oak, smoke, berries, honey, bondfire, tobacco, cigar, light sweetness, roasted, nutty, raisins, light alcohollic burn. Lovely - thanks Mikkel.

250 ml bottle - thanks again to after4ever for another Mikkeller gem; pours light brown and hazy with thin white head; smokey aromas are sweet and subtle; very strong and sweet with flavors of caramel, hops and dank fruit; perfect amount of smoke and really quite an amazing brew; in a lineup of crazy stouts, this might have been my fav

Bottle. Deep amber body with a medium long lasting off-white head. Nice peaty whisky like aroma with tons of malt. Some vanilla notes. Full bodied. Sweet malty flavour with smoke, vanilla, honey, dark fruit, peat and mollasses. Wow! I love it. This one really kick me straight in the face.
