Miver (384), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2008 750ml bottle (#10/40) shared by Walt. Thanks!!! I was very excited to see this one. Poured deep dark black with a tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, sherry and burnt wood. Tastes much like the Mikkeller 黑. Burnt lumber, molasses sweet, bitter baker’s chocolate with some warming. This one grabs you by the nuts and owns you.

Black with a small light brown head. head. Overwhelming, intense aroma with vanilla, oak, some caramel, and complex roast malt notes. Rather sweet, with burned and charcoal notes balancing, toffee malty sweetness, aqnd a lingering warm alcohol. I love how wild and powerful it is. fiver29 (303), Strongsville, Ohio, USA Aug 23, 2008 Tasted at Cleveland tasting on 8-23-08. Thanks!! Bottle pours black with a thin tan head. I smelled this several times and had a hard time deciding what it was exactly I was smelling. I know I was getting roasted malts, then some sweet bourbon, and I had a hard time making out the spices. Maybe a little from the hops. Maybe it was a mix of bitter chocolate and anise or fennel. Whatever it was it was very unique. It had a medium body with a fair amount of carbonation. Taste was exceptional. Roasted malt, slight bourbon notes, and a slew of flavors I am not used to in this style, but I like it! Overall a very nice brew that I contemplated over. And others did as well. pivnizub (3793), Porúří, Germany Aug 11, 2008 Bottle (RBESG 08): Literally back; sweet dark malt, vanilla, soy-sauce and coffee in the nose; full sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; strong sweet coffee in the dark-malty finish, additionally flavoured by vanilla. Very impressive.... argo0 (6167), Washington DC, USA Aug 10, 2008 (BCTC, 750ml bottle, thanks Walt!) Black body with small brown head. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk/bittersweet chocolate, alcohol, light anise. Taste is incredibly sweet, milk chocolate, molasses, alcohol, smoke/roast, some dark chocolate, light soy sauce. Full body, some stickiness. Once palate adjusts to the sweetness, it’s nice, but the sweetness definitely needs getting used to.
