From tap at the Mikkeller bar. Pours dark brown to black with a creamy, dense and chocolate brown head. Aroma is classic beer geek with mild smoked whiff. Light marmelade fruity hops note. Smoked, ashtray and slight tarish. Slight salty. Vague chocolate malty note. Vague chalky and ashtray like into a dry and mild smoked finish. Lasting dry dark malty, chocolate and light smoked into the far finish.

Draft. A pitch black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of dextrose?, smoke, roasted malt, and coffee - where does the dextrose note come from? The flavor is sweet with notes roasted malt, coffee, soy sauce, smoke, and bacon, leading to a dry, roasted, smoked, and coffee finish. The body is thick.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of Pinball. Pitch black with a small and dissipating light brown head. Smoky nose - I think I pick up both Bamberg smoke and peat. Solid body, sweet hard roast, a little tar - the smoke is less prominenct now. Dry, hard roast malt bitterness. 140810

Bottled (from Kihosk, Copenhagen, if my memory works). Black colour, mediumsized brown head that leaves good lace. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts and a bunch of ashes. Flavour is coffee, roasted malts, mild bacony fat, ashes as well as some mild alcohol. Too roasted and ashy for my taste.

Bottled. Very black, creamy beige head. Lightly smokey with some licorice. Sweet with full body and rather creamy moutfheel. Slight smoke behind the coffee, followed by a tarry finish. Feels solid, but leaves less impressed than I was hoping for.

Opaque black beer. Small brown head, short lived. Softish semi dry palate. Dark chocolate malt, tangy. Tiny bit of hop and of course there is a little smoke. Mild minerals in the finish with the tang becoming fruity. Nicely joined up and a nice smoked.

2011-02-01, draught at Ørsted, Copenhagen, 8-5-7-4-15=39
Absolute black color; creamy brown head. Very strong smoke, peat aroma, it immediately reminds me of an Islay whisky; followed by roasted malts, cookies, vanilla, paper. The body has average strength, with roasted malts and chocolate flavor, correct bitterness, a decent smoke touch (but a bit covered by the roasted malts). Very good.

2010-07-08, draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Black color; small brown head. Mild aroma of heavily roasted malts, and burnt coffee, ashes; no trace of smoke or pig. It’s served too cold; Good body strength; prepotent flavor of roasted malts and coffee, dark chocolate too, but overwhelmed; there is a mild spicy note, like a chili beer. The final is based on the roasted malts and ashes, too much for me, but at least the mouthfeel is still round, not weak; strong dry bitterness. The alcohol is warming the mouth. Almost monodimensional (apart from the chili).
