truly outstanding. incredible aroma of smoke/ham/bacon. flavor is so complex. moderate to high smokiness with coffee underneath, works together just beautifully. think smoked imperial stout. i love black coffee and bacon but the way this comes together is just out of this world.

Had as Rauch Geek Breakfast, which is labeled an Oatmeal Stout. Whatever. Strong, smoky aroma has tones of coffee, molasses and hickory. It pours a deep, nearly black, opaque sable with a very thick and fine-bubbled dark tan head. As for the flavor - imagine drinking a high-quality mocha that’s been spiked. Now add a generous helping of hickory smoke and pinches of nutty, caramel and licorice flavors. Full-bodied texture has a strong fizz and leaves behind a firm, persistent tingle. Catch this one while you can!

Tap @ Mikkeller & Friends, Köpenhamn 14/9. En riktigt god stout! Kaffe/kaffebönor i smaken. Ganska torr med en bra beska.

500mL - Rauch Geek Breakfast - bottle. Pour is jet black with a smallish tan head that falls away rather quickly leaving a thick ring of lace around the rim of the glass. Aroma is smoky, malty, dark roasted coffee and chocolate with a touch of caramel. Flavor up front is vanilla, caramel, chocolate followed by smoked bacon, peated malt and dark coffee in the finish. Over all an incredible, complex stout, creamy, smoky, what a treat and for my $$ right on the money.

16.9 ounce bottle. Served in a DFH signature glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch frothy tan head. Head retention is good, with a lot of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is excellent, there’s plenty of smoke/peat/bacon noticable, along with some dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, it’s very smoky and roasty! There’s also a good lingering smoky finish. Although I think the aroma is smokier than the taste, this is still a pretty tasty brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it’s creamy and coating with low carbonation. This brew is smooth and very easy to drink. It’s easily the smokiest brew I’ve had lately, and a pretty good overall brew in general.

It’s pitch black with a huge, dark-brown, creamy and lasting head – yummi. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, charcoal, camp fire, licorice and coffee. The flavour has a light sweetness and notes of roasted malt, camp fire, charcoal, licorice, coffee and the flavour lasts a very long time, perfect to let the delicious camp fire invade the mouth in the most terrific way.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle. A - Very dark oily black color with a pretty large, very thick, extraordinarily creamy, sticky, pillowy, cafe colored head. Pretty good retention with a nice thick, very creamy, tight layer of lace. S - Smells wonderful with with a nice smoked/bacony aroma with plenty of roasted chocolate malt. A touch of coffee, caramel and peat aromas as well, with the coffee coming out more toward the finish. Mouthwatering. T - Similar to the nose, but with a bit less bacony flavor. Some roasted, smokey chocolate malt. Some peaty flavors come out toward the middle. Good amount of smokey flavor with some bacon/smoked meat but a bit more of a smoked wood flavor. Decent amount of black coffee comes out toward the finish. Slightly bitter taste as well. M - Medium body with a pretty good level of carbonation. Pretty smooth and oily feel. A touch on the thin side for what I was expecting. D - Pretty easy to drink beer with a good amount of smokey flavors, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. A little too smoked wood flavor for me, and if it was just a bit more bacony it would be great. Notes: Pretty good beer. Like I said, I just wished it was a bit more bacon/meaty smoke flavor than smoked wood. Also the smokiness hides a bit of the chocolate and coffee and oat flavors as well. Overall it is an enjoyable stout and smells wonderful, but I prefer the Weasel Brunch more. That said it is a good beer worth a try, although for the price I might not get another.

Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. This is an amazing beer. Probably the best beer I’ve had in a long time. Pours black with a dark tan head, which I always love to see. Nose is awesome. Campfire, chocolate, coffee, bread, pancakes, maple syrup. I swear I could smell juice in there too... On taste, I’m amazed that all of the flavors are there and don’t get muddied at all. Great smoke notes coupled with wonderful dark chocolate and fresh coffee. Not overly sweet either. Amazing beer.

Tap @ Palm Tavern. The beer pours to a black body with a deep beige head. The aroma was chocolate and smoked malts. Some mild hops. The flavor was fantastic! The rauch malts really bring this beer together and balance it. I’d love to see this beer made with the civet coffee. The hops are pretty subdued in this beer which allows the malt to shine. Chocolate and smoke. Divine!

Very good beer with a smokey flavor. Good colour and nice foam. A good version of the beer geek series.
