Foffern (737) - Bodø, NORWAY - MAY 14, 2013
Bottle shared with (and great courtesy of) the Bergen tasting crew. The colour is black and has a brown colour. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, soy sauce, licorice and smoke. Lots of the same in the taste with the addition of ash and oak. The mouth feel is rich but with lumps, and has a lasting medium bitterness. The last part of the beer has a lot of jelly lumps. Not pleasant. Apart from this its a well-balanced and nice beer. A bit more faint smoky tones than expected.

500 ml bottle thanks to jtclockwork. Pours a thick, viscous black with a khaki colored head of foam. The aroma has just a pleasant smoke, bacon presence on top of the coffee stout base. Taste is lightly smoky with faint coffee and hearty malt profile. Thick and slick on the tongue. Really a nice smoked beer. Surprisingly drinkable.

Deep black pour with a frothy, brown head. It has a smokey bacon aroma with wood, dark chocolate, and mild coffee. The medium body has a creamy texture with soft carbonation. The taste is well-balanced. It starts with some sweetness and finishes dry with a little more coffee flavor.

Grima (1863) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - APR 29, 2013
Bottle from Bierkompass!
Pours deep black with deep brown, thick creamy head. Smell is very earthy/smokey, with lots of burnt malts, chocolate and roasted coffee! Starts with sweet chocolate notes, paired with roasted coffe, burnt malts and a slight smokey bacon aroma. The middle part has lots of roasted coffe and chocolate, the bacon gets a little bit stronger. Goes into a very roasted coffee’ish finish with sweet chocolate and a slight alcoholic note.

Advocate_Ames (225) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 26, 2013
From the looks of this beer it is nicely carbonated, has a foaming brown thin head, and is of a deep black color. The aroma is full of smoke with minor notes of licorice, tobacco, roasted malts, hops, and chocolate. The flavor is of roasted malts, bitter coffee, and grains. The finish is of smoke, malts, grains, and yeast that form a somewhat enjoyable aftertaste. Overall it is a good beverage but a little too corrupted by the smoke that tends to take away from the other ingredients and their flavor.
