March 9, 2012 - with blankboy, gregclow, jercraigs & mabel. 500ml bottle c/o ("I am NOT dripping!"). Nearly opaque brown-black with a smallish creamy light brown head. Aroma - some sweet bourbon and dry oak in there, but thankfully itís mostly a great imperial stout: dry, deep coffee/chocolate roast, alcohol, quite herbal, a bit lactic, not sweet or fruity at all (8+). Taste follows, terrific balance, itís creamy and strong but not boozy - nutshell and tons of coffee, enough to shove the damned bourbon way into the background. Slightly thick and definitely creamy and frothy mouthfeel, lively but not sharply so, finishes deeply roasty with appropriate alcohol and bitterness - a fine example of how to do a restrained bourbon finish on a beer. Excellent stuff, although I prefer the "regular" version.

Chocolate mint aroma. Sweet nose, mint chocolate flavor yields to a coffee finish.

Bottle at Danís, pour courtesy of Aaron. Thanks Man! Pour is pitch black with a small brown head and decent lacing. Light chlorine, peat, smoke, pee water, light cocoa, and nail polish in the aroma. Taste is very peaty, bourbon, roast, espresso, mint chocolate chip, smoke, and dark chocolate. Sticky mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Somewhat offensive, but still drinkable. Not really my thing.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, thanks to Aaron for the pour! Thick black pour with nice tan head, aroma has notes of chlorine, hints of sour vinegar, hints of coffee, old sewer drainage, not good. Taste is a mix of sweet and minty earth, chocolate touch of bourbon, hints of earth, sewage. Not very good.

Bottle @ Danís house, picked up at De Molen. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a brown head that dissipates pretty quickly. Quite spicy, cardamom, light caramel, mild juicy whiskey, cookie aroma. Starts out a bit boring caramel/chocolate flavor and then explodes with whiskey, anise, chocolate, roasty malty deliciousness. I was a bit disappointed at first but it really turns into a delicious caramel/toffee/whiskey/chocolate goodness.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a tan head. Aroma is of bourbon, oak, vanilla, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, oats and some charred oak notes. The flavor follows the nose, nice oak and bourbon flavor, some charred oak too, vanilla, dark caramel, coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt and oaty notes. The body is full with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a nice Stout, but the coffee as really faded over the years, I would have preferred it fresher.

Thx. to Gene // 50 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG 2012 // 2009 Vintage // Red wax // black with a small mocha head // smells is crazy sweet, molasses, touch cola with some bourbon and milk chocolate // one sweet concoction of pure brown sugar, lots of coffee. molasses. bourbon, milk chocolate, mocha some bitterness, roast coming up in the finish // touch too thin and touch to carb. // not bad, prices are not easy on these things
