2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. A cute one, next to black, and topped by a small, tan head. The aroma has loads of tea, too much I think, ruining the goodness of the base beer. The flavor has the same problem, the tea is running the show, more or less preventing the base beer’s roasted malts and coffee from stepping forward. Some notes of paint thinner, which I suspect is due to the tea. Full body, dry and with a pleasant level of carbonation. Lasting finish, again with tea doing most of the job. Just not my cup of tea. 120511

Draught @ [ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012 ] @ Spartas Lokaler, Faelledparken in Osterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Clear dark brown colour with a small average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, english tea, cold bitter Earl Grey tea. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, again just english tea - bitter tea. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft.

At Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Black with a small tan head. The aroma has lots of tea, some roasted notes and a touch of smoke. Sweet and intensely tannic flavour of cold tea, with a touch of lapsang souchon smoke, a spicy hint and some alcohol.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Sampled at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. Pours a clear and dark brown beer with no head. The aroma is malt, roasted, tea, smoke and notes of peat. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is dry with smoke and tea. Overall an average beer, more special than good.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at CBC. Pours black with a tiny tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, tea and smoke. Major tea in the flavour overwhelming other aspects. Interesting experiment but wouldn’t go back for a second.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft. A pitch black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma is totally dominated by English tea. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, tea, and coffee, leading to a bitter tea like finish. Interesting attempt, but not to my liking.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Tap @ CBC. Dark brown color with a tiny off-white head. Nose is somewhat floral, herbal, with notes of rasted malt, wood, and light chocolate. The taste is overwhelming Earl Gray tea. Wow, it’s very much like a cup that’s been steeping for far too long. Light herbal tang and some notes of subtle chocolate. A bit hammy, too. Medium body, soft carbonation. Lightly oily. Overall, I love Mikkeller’s creativity, but the earl gray tea flavor is a bit over-represented here.
