Pours a dark used motor oil black with a nice khaki head that sits around the edge of the glass. Aromas of cocoa, dark chocolate, dark cherries, coffee, espresso and a nice grain aroma. First taste is smooth and creamy, filled with cocoa, coffee and roasted malt. There?s a slight alcohol bite and a nice roasted/hoppy bitterness. Dark chocolate finishes it off. The oat character really comes out as the beer warms up. Quite delicious. Mouthfeel is oily and sticky and the bitterness kinda lingers. This is an amazing beer. Get it if you can.

12oz bottle shared with the friends. Let me start be saying this this beer is brewed with Civet Coffee, which as we all know, is coffee that is pooped out of a cat-weasel thing. Luckily, my buddy MADE me try it, as I couldn’t get over the poop-in-my-beer aspect up to that point. And It was great! Complex, rich, huge nose. Coffee notes with hints of cocoa, butterscotch, and whiskey barrels. Taste follows the nose with a big creamy texture, coffee and smoke, cocoa and booze. I definitely realized instantly that I was drinking something special. Amazingly contemplative beer. We must have talked about it for 45min. Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 was because it was brewed with poop.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Appearance is a dense black with a respectable brown head of foam. Aroma emits a resinous dark chocolate and black coffee presence reminiscent of a nice french roast coffee. Roasty. Hints of smokiness waft up from the glass as well. Finally the first sip makes its way to my lips. At first I find a bitter cup of black coffee with a side of super dark chocolate. The bitterness slowly fades to a drying, less bitter espresso taste. Notes of toasted bread come through with a hints of somewhat burnt edges. Full and chewy body with just the right amount of coffee and chocolate aftertaste. I could drink/contemplate this beer all day. Fantastic!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 crazyvin (1540) - New York, USA - FEB 17, 2012
A nice dark brown body with a nice brown head that faded away a little too quickly. Aroma had good roasted malt notes, I could really get the coffee. Some sweetness from chocolate malts and oats. There was a faint hint of smoke in the background. Flavor was velvety smooth. There was great roasted coffee notes upfront, a sweetness from the chocolate really complemented the coffee notes. Finish had a mix of mild smoke and some hops. It did have a nice sweetness to it, probably from the oats. A well balanced beer.

500ml bottle pours black in color with a 3 finger beige head that has excellent retention and leaves some lovely lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark roasted malts and hints of coffee and hops. Taste is roasted malt and coffee bitterness balanced with a chocolate malty sweetness with a hoppy bitter finish. Medium to full body with decent carbonation. This is a truly outstanding stout and is highly recommended.

A: Dark brown/black body, medium thickness khaki cap, spotty lacing.
S: Rich roasted coffee, oatmeal, a little smoke.
T: Like the nose, Beer Geek is dominated by a nice coffee presence and is backed by a nice semi-sweet oatmeal base. Mild bitterness and a trace of smoke.
M: Medium-full bodied. Nice creamy thickness.
O: A very nice stout that fits in well with the others in the series.

Beer Geek pours black. Pitch black. A huge tan crater filled head is poured. Great retention and lacing. Now for some reason I thought I was going to be blasted with coffee in the nose but I didn’t not that I was disappointed by that I didn’t but I would of figured since it was called Beer Geek Breakfast that more coffee would be in there. Usually my kind of breakfast is a nice latte from Starbucks =) Instead I think the star of the aroma is another breakfast treat. Oats. Nice oatmeal like aroma. Backed up by espresso, roasted malt, and a tiny bit of a grassy hop aroma.
Taste is basically the same but things seem a bit more balanced. The coffee and roasted malt notes I got from the smell definitely match up nice with the oats. It’s more 50/50. The taste is slightly bitter from the coffee and slightly dry from the hops. I could drink this stuff everyday for breakfast =) Mouthfeel is medium bodied, silky, and goes down smooth.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Opaque black, brown head. Smells very roasty, mocha-like. Mouthfeel is unbelievably smooth, oily, rich and thick. The flavour of rich coffee is powerful, controlled and consistent from front of tongue to back of throat. Can’t tell it’s 7.5%. Really extremely good.
