Bottle. Strong dark chocolate and coffee malt aroma - light astigent alcohol notes. End of the bottle pours out lumpy. Opaque black color with large tan head. Dark chocolate, toffee, and coffee flavor - again light astringency. A great beer.

Bottle. Black with large brown head. Dry, roasted coffee but not too much coffee. Medium to heavy body. Not that sweet as others can be. A very nice beer.

Bottle at the Cuvee de Castleton release at Captain Lawrence. Pours a thick black with a medium sized tan head. Roast and coffee, but nothing over powering. Medium to thick body and roasty. Coffee, malt, and a big bitter finish. Very well done.

16.9 oz bottle saved for a long time and finally poured with a friend, likely from Binnys (Orland Park, IL). Pours a midnight black, fairly large dark brown head that dies to a small layer, opaque, thick. Aromas are a dark malt bomb, roasted malts, coffee, oatmeal sweetness, faint chocolate. Very nice. Initial is coffee dominant, oatmeal sweetness to balance, toast and big roasted malts. Strong hop bitterness in the finish, with good creamy chocolate, coffee and espresso, with heavy roasted malts. Caramel, vanilla, and an overall oatmeal sweetness. The bitterness in the finish is quite profound. A good move towards big breakfast stouts. Finish wins it points for me.

500ml bottle. Would have to say this is officially the first coffee stout i’ve ever tried, outside of the world of homebrew. Perfect pour with a rocky brown head capping a sinfully black opaque body. Glass is painted brown all the way down. Strong aroma, complex roasted malt; bitter cocoa, black coffee, burnt toast, smoke, stewed cereals, salty liquorice, charred wood. Some noticable hop citrus with undertones of vinous fruit and supporting alcohol. Carbonation is relatively low, texture is velvet like, oily, very rich and thick, would be liqueur-like if wasn’t counter-balanced with an obtrusive bitterness that seems to be both grain and hop derived. Huge smack in the face of flavour on the body, like a shot of very strong and particularly fine espresso. Typical dark chocolate and burnt toffee in there bolstered by rich notes of toasted cereal, charred wood, smoked meat, earthy cinnamon, black grape tannin. Taste just lingers and lingers and then some, brutally drying and bitter, begging for more and enough to make you ignore the 7.5% alcohol in there. Truely amazing stout. Totally not what I expected, yes, there’s coffee in there and it does have the flavour of coffee, but there’s so much more to it and the textures and complexities of flavour, well, you get the idea, it’s good!

Bottle. Black colour with a huge light brown head. The aroma is coffee, roasted malt and liquorice. Espresso flavour with roasted malt and dark chocolate with a hint of liquorice. Long roasted coffee aftertaste with some bitterness, medium to full-bodied.
