However the appearance was the first indicator as to how impressive this beer was to become. Initial impressions - expected a strong coffee flavour, yet its subtlety was a pleasant suprise. Building to a crescendo of bitterness and a slight malty taste inherent in many of his beers. Suprisingly more carbonated than expected in a stout, yet smooth and extremely drinkable. Exquisite beer and left me wanting. blklab2007 (955), Connecticut, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 25, 2009 Updated: Sep 22, 2009bottle poured a dark black in color with a thick tan espresso like head. aroma has roasted coffee, dark chocolate, dark malt, and some underlying sweetness. mouth feel is thick and solid and the carbonation just right for it’s heftiness. flavor has heavy roast both on the coffee and malted sides, bitterness, slight sweetness, and chocolate. the oats work nicely in this one and although it is heavy on the roasted side all the flavors still come through in it. Not overly drinkable due to the punch it packs, but still quite wonderful. Paid 8 bucks for a bomber, which is good, but maybe not worth it too often. LarsEngen (101), Sandvika, Norway
