3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dusseldorf Gathering, Bottled. Grassy and moccha aroma. Black color, brown fine head, good lace. It starts like you’re chewing on coffee beans, roasted and bitter but gets sweet half way. It’s all there, everything you were expecting. Very good but not really exceptional. Finishes a little dry. Thank you Papsoe!

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 8, 2007 I had waited a long time to get this beer, and finally I found it. After a few days of resting, I simply could not wait any longer, I just had to open it. It’s a pitch black beer with a huge, light brown head and the aroma is simply wonderful, I’m in love! I get notes of bitter chocolate and coffe, and the sensation is so very balanced, that I even before I taste it know, that I’m not going to share this one with anyone.... The flavour - Mamma mia.... I think this must be the best stout I ever sank my greedy teeth into, it’s thick and lovely - ready to be eaten with its notes of porridge and coffee with a hint of chocolate. The coffee flavour is simply wonderful and the oats gives a smooth and soft counterweight, and the balance is unique. The finish is marvellous and very long, and the bitterness develops in an exciting way. I can only say: Mikkeller RULES, they make great beers, and this one is phenomenal...!!! It is a more than worthy beer for my personal rating # 1600.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 26, 2007 I was expecting to be blown away by this, and while it was interesting and very drinkable, it wasn’t mind-boggling in complexity or creativity of brewing. What did stand out, instead, was ease of drinkability, a Mikkeller strong suit. Poured dark black with a substantial and compacted dark tan cap. Soft aroma of brewing coffee, light chocolate, even lighter raspberries and oatmeal. Palate is soft and medium bodied. More coffee and chocolate bitterness in the initial taste. Very easy to drink, surprising how quaffable and light this goes down. Very complex, quite tasty, but nothing stands out besides the drinkability. I don’t desire any particular beer have a huge flavor, but this had a clear lack of focus.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Not stored. In a year or so I rerate a stored version. I like this beer. It has a lot of everything. Lots of dark flavours, superior bitterness and this layer upon layer of complexity. A true brew for the geeks, and others who like their stout complex and heavy. This is Nanobrew at its finest.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black with a good brown-grey creamy head. Great aroma with some alcohol, lots of coffee and quite a bit of chocolate-like sweetness. Extremely full mouthfeel. Low carbonated. Quite dry with lots of coffee - actually quite bitter as well.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Hoppy aroma with some coffee. Black colour, brown head. Nice flavour, the coffee is distinct, but not overdone. Quite bitter. Soft, creamy mouthfeel.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beautiful pitchblack colour with a lightbrown head that is medium high and only dissapears slowly. A powerful and incredibly lovely aroma of oatmeal, liquorice, coffee, chocolate. Furthermore is the aroma hops very obvious for a stout. The flavor is very malty by chocolate and liquorice and has a lot of real coffee-flavor. The beer becomes more sour towards the aftertaste that has nice touches of smoke, coffee and enormous amounts of bitter hops. It is a little thinner than I expected, and is very dry. Maybe it could have used a little more sweetness. However, this is an exceptional beer, without a doubt.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Shared by sliffy at CT4. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Very rich and a little burning in the nosrils. Flavor was a little bitter most likely from the coffee. Had a very nice oily palate but the body seemed a little thin.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(Bottled) Very dark brown color with a medium, tight and beige head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee with milk, and chocolate. Strongly roasted, malty, ashy and dry flavor with quite high bitterness and hints of smoky tar. Long, lingering, dry and ashy, very bitter aftertaste. No alcohol present in this baby. Medium-bodied, dry and bitter palate with smooth carbonation. A tasty porter with a delicious coffee aroma (I’m not a coffee lover, thus only 8 points) and all, but maybe a bit too ashy flavor. Smoother and nicer in room temp - or maybe even higher! For breakfast ... why not - if you’re taking a bus to work ;)
