Aroma really feels oily. Palate feels some oily dark chocolate and leaves it very dry.It feels very thick in the mouth. Good carbonation. Finish is long roasted malt and very dry. This beer is quite something. It is also very drinkable. Well balanced. I would definitely try that during breakfast. bacchanalia (68), milton, Cambridgeshire, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 1, 2009 From the bottle it pours like oil, the deep black pool could not be more inviting. The nose is intense & powerful, malt, coffee, treacle & liquorice. The palate is smooth & creamy with bitter choco & burnt malt, but then the finish takes over, & what a finish. Absolutely massive, I could almost taste it the next day. Dried coffee, burnt malt, more treacle & liquorice & then a building bitterness. The great thing about this beer is the complete experience, the nose, the rounded flavours in the mid palate, then an explosion of different flavours on the enormous finish. It almost goes without saying that the conditioning & balance are spot on. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2009 Bottle: Beer pours black with a nice, big dark tan colored head that is totally retained. Aroma is very earthy, coffee, and alcohol. Flavor is black coffee with some roasted nuts. I like Founders Breakfas better. Birdiebeagle (780), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 25, 2009 Bottle Pours a deep black with a generous light brown head. The head is creamy and lasting. produces real good lacing. Has a good aroma of coffee, alcohol, chocolate and some oatmeal. Has a light carbonation, which works well for this beer. Has wonderful flavors. You get a good dose of coffee. A little sour acid but its all good. Has a watery texture. A medium to full body. A real good finish with a good lingering aftertaste. This beer cost a little but was worth it. beerandIT (182), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2009 Pours dark, pitch black with less than an inch of dark brown head. Lacing the glass nicely and decent head retention. On the nose you get a ton of coffee and more coffee. I also get an almond like smell on the aroma. On the palate you get of course coffee! Along with roasted malts, and a bit of almond on there as well a bit more subtle though. Excellent beer. Highly recommended. tilldeath (74), Arvada, Colorado, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | May 19, 2009 What a Coffee stout should be, smooth not intrusive malty but just the right amount of coffee bitterness to balance it out. If it was a little cheaper this would be my morning after beer hands down. Prefer this to even Founders breakfast stout. A solid beer cmonster (75), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2009 Bottle served in a snifter, shared with joelcuts. I’ve been looking forward to tasting this one. Pours a rich black color with a small, creamy, light brown head that redevelops when the glass is swirled. Roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate on the nose as expected. Also a hint of sweetness in the form of chocolate covered cherries and hazelnuts. Coffee is the dominant flavor as well. Medium-full body and a creamy, carbonated palate. Thick and slick mouthfeel with a bittering dark chocolate finish.
