Bottle. Black body, with a large brown head. Aroma is lots of coffee, roasted malt. Flavor is coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt. It has a light bitter aftertaste.

(bottle) deep black with very generous brown head (watch the pour- I lost some over the rim). Aroma of slightly sweet roast malt, coffee. Full bodied with prominent roast malt, coffee, dark chocolate and sweet oatmeal flavors. Don’t really notice the hops, but the balance is good. Great stout. Would make a good base for a stout float.

Pours a deep brown black color with a pile of creamy tan head atop. Wonderful aroma of coffee, chocolate and a touch of smokiness. Flavors are rich and delicious. Lots of cocoa and coffee, with a nice oat smoothness. This is a really nice brew.

Tasting courtesy of Matt7215, Thank you Mr. Mcdonald. Pleasant coffee, chocolate stout. Pretty typical, but still delicious.

Bottle, 2007. This is something special. The beer is opaque brown, almost black with a wonderful, large creamy cappuccino brown head. Theres massive lacework all over the glass. The aroma is incredibly complex: lactic, also well balanced with plenty of hops coming through the malt. Theres some chocolate up front, rich, creamy, with dry dark roasted coffee beans, smoke, cream, plenty of grain. The mouthfeel is smooth, oily, silky with medium body. Flavour is wonderful. Theres lots of dark chocolate up front (high in cocoa), with a nice balance of fresh hop bitterness, some darkly roasted coffee beans, a slight fruity sweetness in the finish.

Bottle. Enjoyed side by side with Founder’s Breakfast Stout. Stylistically, this struck me as more similar to some of the east coast stouts. This was noticeably thinner and less unctuous as the breakfast stout, but I respect it for not trying to overdo each component, but rather, to offer a well crafted, well extracted stout. Flavors of soy, chicory, and a touch of smoke with Sumatran coffee on the finish. Nonetheless, it lacked the body and mouthfeel of what I equate with a stout ranked in the high 3s or low 4s on this site. Well made and a stout I would drink often, just not exceptional for its class.

Overall Pretty good stout. Not the Oatmeal that you expect. Espresso is the dominating flavor. Would be awesome with a breakfast burrito or maybe a night cap. Its a must try.

Bottle shared with Steve. Good beer. I think the hype made this sound better than it actually was. Didnt taste much of an oatmeal flavor. More of a bitter espresso. Very drinkable and everyone should try it.
