I tried this beer on February 25, 2009 at "Smokeless Joes" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer was dark brown, almost black. with a thick fluffy light brown head. The aroma was roasted malt, dark chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, with mild carbonation. The flavour was bitter with strong hints of coffee, chocolate, and plums. A great beer Avengedpoet (325), Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 10, 2009 Pours jet black with limited tan head. Sweeter than brunch one-for-one in a bad way. Lots of alcohol present on the nose. Some roasty coffee notes. Fairly highly carbonated for an RIS. Too carbonated and too much roast for my taste to be able to enjoy a lot. Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Mar 9, 2009 Bottle 2007.
Pitch black with a medium sized, brown head.
A pleasantly smooth aroma with dark chocolate, coffee, tan and hints of alcohol.
The flavour is super balanced with lots of dark chocolate and coffee. Mildly roasted malt, liquorice and hops are also present.
It has a strong, a little bitter and long lasting aftertaste which is lovely thick on the palate.
An absolutely fantastic beer! Tweety (337), Vancouver, Washington, USA Mar 8, 2009 I really wasn’t that impressed with this one, it’s a pretty tasty stout, but really nothing too great. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Mar 8, 2009 08 Bottle from nflmvp, you the man Steve! Cellar’d for 1 year. Aroma has notes of espresso, rich cacao chocolate, oats. Black as night with an average sized tan head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Flavor is burnt and roasted with a bitter finish. Palate is medium bodied and oily soft. Very good and very smooth. Did not age as well as I’d hoped. carruthm (1112), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 5, 2009 Bottle. Upon opening, the rush of dark cocoa aroma hit the nose. Pours a medium black with a big dark volcanic tan head. Oats are more subtle, but there. First taste is hot, disguising some of the roast for a moment, but that quickly clears away and the coffee is apparent. Mouthfeel starts out like a cola and finishes like an iced mocha. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Mar 5, 2009 Bottle. Pours pitch black with tan head. Aroma is coffee and oatmeal. Taste is full bodied - notes of coffee, oatmeal, and roasted chocolate. DeputyAndy (60), New Jersey, USA Mar 5, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a thick, frothy mocha head. Delicious aroma reminiscent of coffee. Very think, complex taste with heavy coffee flavors and chocolate flavors dominate with oatmeal giving it a nice round, full taste. Very substantial and hearty.
