BroSpud (583), , Massachusetts, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle $12.99 Julio’s Liquors - This one tasted real fine. Very dark color. More chocolate than coffee taste. Nice creamy head. If I were to have a beer for breakfast this would be a fine choice! Instead had as desert. Will definitely seek out more Mikkeller. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Feb 15, 2009 Bottle - Poured black with medium tan head.
Aroma - coffee and oat scent. I just had devil over barrel by Tyranena and this is mild.
Flavor - coffee and chocolate with a little vanilla.
Palate - heavy mouthfeel with average carbonation. Creamy smooth on tongue with dry roasted almost smokey finish.
Overall - Great beer with more of subdued coffee aroma and flavor. Definite breakfast brew!! ironchefscott (341), portland, Oregon, USA Feb 15, 2009 drinken on my 30th b-day...for breakfast!!!!! right now!
looks fucking great great tan hea...great head retention and lacing...but seems a bit one noted and not a ton of complexity and not a ton of coffee flavor? decent but will I buy it again?????? not so much tarheels86 (703), Washington DC, USA Feb 14, 2009 500 mL. Pours a pitch black with a three-finger, huge dark tan head. Leaves very good lacing. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt, and huge vanilla bean ice cream. Taste is very creamy with dark chocolate and vanilla and then moves to tart, cardboardy roasted malt with dry hops. For such a hyped up beer this has a very thin body- almost watery. But then again I am rating this like a Russian Imperial rather than a normal stout. Aftertaste is tart and crisp. Finishes with a grainy, dry, cardboard taste. A little overrated in my opinion. Would go great with breakfast though. Scauca (408), Lovere, Italy Feb 11, 2009 2007 bottle. Pitch black with a huge everlasting creamy brown head. Aroma of burnt coffee, some citrusy hoppiness, green apples, ashy.
Thin body, sweet to a burnt coffee end, metallic, some chocolate. A disappointment. ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Feb 10, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a dark brown lasting head. Aroma full of dark coffee and chocolate. Flavor dominated by rich coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Some lighter notes in the finish, including a creamy malt character. Light mouthfeel for the style, but plenty of strength and smoothness. Great stout. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle, pours dark black. Thick beer that is bitter and smooth at the same time. Not much by way of coffee. Good beer but not much stands out to separate it from other stouts. jonno (538), Brisbane, Australia Feb 7, 2009 A special beer in that they have made something very interesting that won’t be to everyone’s tastes. LOTS of bitter burnt coffee and moderate molasses taste. I could imagine hating this beer if I drunk it at the wrong time, but luckily today wasn’t such a time. The body is slightly thin, which is the only complaint I can level at the great brew.
