Sweet aroma of caramel malt, coffee, milk chocolate, roasted malt, and huge vanilla bean ice cream. Taste is very creamy with dark chocolate and vanilla and then moves to tart, cardboardy roasted malt with dry hops. For such a hyped up beer this has a very thin body- almost watery. But then again I am rating this like a Russian Imperial rather than a normal stout. Aftertaste is tart and crisp. Finishes with a grainy, dry, cardboard taste. A little overrated in my opinion. Would go great with breakfast though. Scauca (409), Lovere, Italy
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 11, 2009 2007 bottle. Pitch black with a huge everlasting creamy brown head. Aroma of burnt coffee, some citrusy hoppiness, green apples, ashy.
Thin body, sweet to a burnt coffee end, metallic, some chocolate. A disappointment. ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 10, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a dark brown lasting head. Aroma full of dark coffee and chocolate. Flavor dominated by rich coffee and bitter dark chocolate. Some lighter notes in the finish, including a creamy malt character. Light mouthfeel for the style, but plenty of strength and smoothness. Great stout. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 7, 2009 Bottle, pours dark black. Thick beer that is bitter and smooth at the same time. Not much by way of coffee. Good beer but not much stands out to separate it from other stouts. jonno (562), Brisbane, Australia

LOTS of bitter burnt coffee and moderate molasses taste. I could imagine hating this beer if I drunk it at the wrong time, but luckily today wasn’t such a time. The body is slightly thin, which is the only complaint I can level at the great brew. rosenbergh (870), Helsinki, Finland

Very nice black colour.
Unfortunately aroma and flavour is all coffee to me. Can’t find anything else than coffee. Wish I could enjoy it... but I can’t. chuck316 (3), Anchorage, Alaska, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 4, 2009 the first thing you notice about this beer is how exceptionally dark it is. it pours quite violently with a dark chocolate head. the nose is roasted coffee and toasted malts with some latent bitter notes. much the same on the palate, the coffee is at the forefront but the chocolate and roast are also well presented. Finishes fairly hoppy with a lingering, heavy mouthfeel. great breakfast beer if your not eating much, as it is quite filling. PhillyBeer2112 (2086), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Roasty coffee nose with hints of licorice, dark chocolate, roasted grain. Very dark dark, near black. Profuse foaming brown head. Smooth palate, with a little acidic or astringent bite coming from either coffee or black malts. Its heavy on oats so that too could contribute to some of the astringency here. Long roasted finish. Fairly dry, but not thinned out, which is good.
