illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 20, 2009 Bottle from Ross, I think. I believe this is the first batch released in the states, so this could be well over a year old. Pours a viscous black with nice chocolate brown head. Lots of inviting roast in the nose. Full bodied, but not too thick with a smooth texture. Flavor of burnt malts, coffee, and unsweetened dark bakers chocolate. Not much residual sweetness. Some astringency on the dry finish, that leaves a lingering coffee ground bitterness on the palate .Bitterness mellows at room temp, and is more enjoyable. Perhaps past it’s prime, but no signs of oxidation. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jan 19, 2009 Thanks JaBier for sharing: This pours a very dark brown with a bubbly caramel and tan head. Alcohol is very present in the nose, with a tinge of an astringent quality. Pretty velvety mouthfeel with notes of coffee and a lot of roasted malt. Finishes like cocoa; sharp and dry. To be honest, I actually thought I would like this more, even though it was above average. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jan 19, 2009 Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a big tan head. Creamy aroma of coffee and almond. Strong coffee flavor with a bit of creaminess. Awesome stuff, but could use a touch more complexity in the flavor. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Jan 13, 2009 16oz bottle. Pours Dark Brown with a bubbly brown head. Awesome nose smells like roasting gourmet coffee, with a underpining of citrus hops and a little chocolate. Taste is full on espresso up front, quite bitter but smooths out as you drink. A little one dimensional but tasty as hell. The bottle I had was listed as 6.7% ABV and was brewed at Nogne. Really great jeff789 (360), Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2009 Brewed @ Nogne-O... Pours jet black with a deep head that leaves very nice lacing... Aroma of bakers chocolate, coffee, and dark fruits... More of a chocolate taste than a coffee taste, very creamy, very roasty with a dry bitter finish... Wonderfully creamy medium-full bodied mouthfeel... Outstanding beer... watson1977 (250), , Pennsylvania, USA Jan 10, 2009 Updated: Jan 13, 2009aroma was milder than expected but smelled of choclate and spicy hops. color is deep black with a thick very dark brown head and decent lacing. flavor is very chocolatey and finishes with bitter hop and espresso...very dry. mouthfeel is rich and creamy...outstanding. luttonm (275), Belgrade, Serbia Jan 7, 2009 2007/22oz (from Bottleworks, thanks trevor211), unfortunately not for breakfast because we were so dead from the stouts from the night before. Deep pour with sheen and tight diminishing mocha head. Nose is spicy coffee, vanilla and maple. Malty, bitter coffee taste that is a bit thin but filling and tasty. Dark roast coffee, jerky, meaty. Salty? I like the ’breakfast’ idea! mellow, sweet. Nicely done but doesn’t blow my sox off (have I put them on yet?). Definitely would be my mimosa/bloody mary substitute of choice! djtimeless (170), Florida, USA Jan 7, 2009 Pours out black with giant creamy root- beer head.Smells roasty fresh. Taste is coffee and malt. Not sweet at all,dry bitter finish from the hops. Has a ceral quality. Nice mouthfeel, very drinkable stout.
