| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 28, 2009 Beautiful thick, viscous, deep brown pour with a creamy two finger thick head that leaves chunks as it subsides. Rich nose with coffee and malted chocolate. The flavor is even richer and more complex with the same influences and roasted malts. Slight bitter coffee finish. Creamy oat finish. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Updated: Feb 15, 2009500mL bottle from a local group order. Pours out a beautiful pitch black, with a medium brown coloured head. The aroma is just awesome, exactly what I love in a stout. Roasty as hell, tons of coffee and burnt toast, but with a really nice piney hoppy edge and a sweet molasses component adding balance. Flavour perfectly reflects the aroma, with a very sharp biting bitterness that is just awesome. There’s a good 2cm of sludge at the bottom of the bottle, which on its own smells surprisingly hoppy and IMHO is delicious. A slight sour touch in the finish that seems to be from the yeast or oats, it fits. Goes great with the rest of the beer too. Awesome body what with the ample amount of oats, and surprisingly carbonated. This is probably the best stout I’ve had to date, there’s just nothing not to like about it. It really would be a great breakfast beer! Jsawyer (282), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 22, 2009 Bottle. Poured black viscous body with a thick yet fluffy chocolate colored head that resembled the cellular structure of bread. Aroma was very pleasant and very sweet. Redolent of coffee obviously, chocolate, oak, vanilla, sweet oat malt and acidic hops - which blended together into a sort of maple syrup-citrus flavor which was amazing. The flavor was sweetly malty then strong bitter coffee (good), citric hops and a carbonated bite that left only a lingering bitter roast and oak finish. The palate was also intensely comforting; creamy and smooth without being heavy or soporific. I would eat this on my wheaties any day. ucfknightscott (46), Casselberry, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Pours a thick black with a huge creamy head. Aroma of coffee, bittersweet chocolate, and dark fruit. Full mouth feel with a slight alcohol burn. Full flavor of coffee, excellent with breakfast. An excellent stout from an excellent brewer. illinismitty (1795), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Bottle from Ross, I think. I believe this is the first batch released in the states, so this could be well over a year old. Pours a viscous black with nice chocolate brown head. Lots of inviting roast in the nose. Full bodied, but not too thick with a smooth texture. Flavor of burnt malts, coffee, and unsweetened dark bakers chocolate. Not much residual sweetness. Some astringency on the dry finish, that leaves a lingering coffee ground bitterness on the palate .Bitterness mellows at room temp, and is more enjoyable. Perhaps past it’s prime, but no signs of oxidation. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Thanks JaBier for sharing: This pours a very dark brown with a bubbly caramel and tan head. Alcohol is very present in the nose, with a tinge of an astringent quality. Pretty velvety mouthfeel with notes of coffee and a lot of roasted malt. Finishes like cocoa; sharp and dry. To be honest, I actually thought I would like this more, even though it was above average. JaBier (1182), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 19, 2009 Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a big tan head. Creamy aroma of coffee and almond. Strong coffee flavor with a bit of creaminess. Awesome stuff, but could use a touch more complexity in the flavor. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2009 16oz bottle. Pours Dark Brown with a bubbly brown head. Awesome nose smells like roasting gourmet coffee, with a underpining of citrus hops and a little chocolate. Taste is full on espresso up front, quite bitter but smooths out as you drink. A little one dimensional but tasty as hell. The bottle I had was listed as 6.7% ABV and was brewed at Nogne. Really great
