hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Nov 27, 2008 From a 22 oz bottle this poured like used motor oil and raised a rich and foam light brown head and lacing like glue. Nose of roasted malts, almost smoky. Very rich and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is powerful, with burnt malts showing chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. This stuff is a rich as it gets, and is sort of in a class by itself. Ranks up there with Speedway Stout, though it tastes very different. MJGG (400), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 27, 2008 Verre de 4 oz, d’une bouteille au Bières, Caprices et Flaveurs 2008. Arômes très invitants de café. Robe noire, mousse mocha. Belle complexité en bouche, le café et le malt torréfié accompagnent une très alléchante touche de cacao. Légère touche sucrée et l’alcool est très bien dissimulé. Très bon! mattmc1973 (300), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Nov 26, 2008 Bomber, pours black with a two finger frothy brown head. Aroma is weaker than I would expect, mostly of bitter roast coffee. Flavor is two one-sided for me, all bitter with none of the sweet to balance it. Mainly tastes like burnt coffee. Good carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. I guess for a pure coffee lover, you would love this. But I like coffee balanced with some sweetness. dolemite77 (184), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Nov 21, 2008 Well deserving of high ratings... it has the oatmeal stout perfection of a sam smith oatmeal stout, with a high quality coffee flavor. As a coffee lover and a stout lover, this is almost heaven. Mouthfeel would get over a 5 rating if possible... the aroma is a little weaker than expected, which is why it got the lowest of the ratings... Flavor is roasty stout and roasty coffee blending just about perfectly. JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 Updated: Jan 28, 2009I abolutely love this beer. Always a fantastic aroma of coffee, roasted and toasted malts. It has a perfect mouthfeel for a low ABV, and is carbonated perfectly for this style. The toasted oats, cappucino, dark unsweetened chocolate, and hints of white chocolate make this beer complex, drinkable, and fantastic. It could use at least 10 more IBU’s. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Nov 21, 2008 Bomber, from Forest City in CT. Pours as viscous as I’ve seen, with even the head oozing out and into perfect position atop this stout. Aroma is rich with espresso, black coffee beans, roasted malt, and some chocolate. Very, very enticing! Flavor matches the aroma, but with the addition of a creamy vanilla and oat flavor. Speaking of oat, where I see it contributing the most is to the body of this beer. It is thick and almost grainy, which makes for an awesome drinking experience. Beer Geek finishes with a bit of sweetness (perhaps from the oat) to complement and balance the robust coffee character. Definitely a treat, though I did find myself dreaming of waking up to a breakfast bottle of this elixir . . . illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 Poured into a snifter. Pitch black with a mocha head about a finger tall. Excellent retention, some nice fine lacing. Aromas of brownie mix, coffee beans, and caramel. Black coffee flavor with the darkest possible chocolate, very very roasty. Caramel, licorice, and ash accents. Bitter finish. Robust body but silky smooth. Not overly complex but very well-crafted and easy to drink. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 18, 2008 Dark black brew with a thin brown head. Super chocolate aroma with loads of coffee, molasses, oak, and brown sugar. Big bold roasted malt flavor. The coffee isn’t the focus, but lends to the complexity and drinkability overall. Cocoa, soy sauce, and molasses as well.
