Very attractive black pour, with thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, burnt malts, oatmeal. Flavor is nicely balanced, but tends towards the bitter. With coffee, chocolate and roasted malts really come through here. A little over the top in the early finish with notes of ash, but this fades quickly into delicious coffee. Palate is slightly on the thin side, but still pretty full. Very good beer.

Nice black pour with a tan head. Beautiful coffee aroma. Definitely added to the list of beers I want to wake up and start drinking, probably to adverse effects. Flavor is sweet coffee, burnt malts, and a little roasted bitterness. Fairly nice body. Beer is pretty good, similar but a little better than Bell’s Java Stout.

Bomber. Pours a opaque black viscous oily texture color with a small brown head. Nose of coffee, chocolate, oak, and some roasted malt. Initial taste is sweet but not too cloying balanced by touch of coffee and roasted malt. Mid palate demonstrates some vanilla/oak. Finishing with a mild chocolate and roasted malt. Full bodied. Above average palate duration. Well balanced and very drinkable.

Good brew, sampled at Darkness Day. Dark brown pour, tan head. Aroma is coffee dominant with some chocolate and bourbon. Flavor is heavy, dark coffee with roasted chocolate and vanilla. Coffee is a bit overpowering but not too bad.

Deep pitch black coloured body with a thinnish light brown head. Aroma of vanilla, oak, brandy , coffee and roasted malt - all with some sweet raisin overtones. Full-bodied; Strong sweet flavour with a good potent roasty body and a nice malty finish - alcohol comes through, but not overly so. Aftertaste remains nice - bitter, yet sweet. Overall, a great beer - one that I’ve saved for a while, but for a good day...I drank this beer in celebrating my first marathon - the Marine Corps Marathon on 26-October-2008, purchased from West LakeView Liquors in Chicago, Illinois on 28-November-2007, sampled on 26-Oct-08, and would definitely be recommended to others!

Poured into a chalice a deep dark thick black color, nice carbonation, nice little fizzy/creamy dark tan head, which left a nice blob of oil slick in the middle of the glass, and some sticky lacing around the edge. The nose is big/malty, nice touch of coffee/toffee/chocolate/caramel, and some roastiness. The taste is very malty, slightly sweet, good tones of the dark stuff. Medium body, a well rounded brew. Very drinkable, this is my first Mikkeller, but not my last, I have a Black Hole, Big Worse, Stateside IPA in the closet. Thanks Eric.

Pours black, with a dark brown head. Smells like roasted coffee with some floral hops. Thankfully not as strong as I thought it would be. Tastes like coffee, chocolate, general roasted malts but not too burnt. Ends with some bitter hops and roasty bitterness. Thick and smooth, I could drink many more in the future.

very dark. aroma of coffee and chocolate. taste of coffee and chocolate with lots of roast character. very nice beer.
