Bottle pours black with a big brown head. Aroma is distinctly coffee with hints of sweet roasted malts. The taste has a strong coffee/espresso presence with hints of roasted caramel and chocolate malts.

pours a dark black with a very thick creamy brown head. Aroma is nice chocolately roast malt. some coffee, and sweet oatmeal tones. hop bitterness pushiing through... Flavour is burnt malt bitterness, dark roast coffee. Nice sharp bitterness in the finish. Obviously I like the hop combined with the dark roast coffee biterness and a creamy oatmeal undertones.

The deep coffee flavor is strongly accented with burnt fruit wood, with all kinds of grains and malts mixed in. I love that there is also a balanced amount of bitters from what I suppose to be a goodly amount of hops. Even a dryish finish. I need to put up a bit of this for when friends are over.

1 pint 0.9 oz bottle: Wonderful thick rich malty aroma at first, some grapefruit hop characteristics poking through, and an oatmeal and coffee note intermingled throughout. Appearance is deep dark black with a thick tan head that lingers. Taste is roasted malts, dark coffee, oats, with a slight hop twang at the end that makes this brew really interesting. In the aftertaste it’s malty on the tongue with a lingering coffee bitterness. Overall, Pretty darn good stuff in my honest opinion. A little pricey but it is a quality beer all around. Cheers!

pours engine oil, with tan head, nose is marshmellow, chocolate, baked chocolate cake. grapefruit hops, some spices, tar, tastes tar, chocolate, grapefruit, extremely bitter, but the mouthfeel is fluffy and it is balanced for the most part. not really smokey and overly chocolaty. extremely good.

very sharp start unlike anything ive had in a stout, almost astringent. after the hops subside, the oats kick in for a smooth finish, but one that is shortlived. this doesnt have the decadent, luxurious feel that most oatmeal stouts provide. mouthfeel is atypical and not silky at all, color is dark as the grim reapers cloak. maximum coffee and minimum chocolate, nearly acidic. booze is not hidden, its at the forefront surprisingly. many oatmeal stouts are only comforting but this is truly challenging.

Feb 15/07 50cl bottle bot from Russell & Roland. LCBO claims 5.5% alc/vol. Aroma is deep roasted choco espresso. Dark brown with big thick foamy espresso head that eventually thins. Thick bitter vanilla choco roasted espesso but lacking in flavour. Lasting bitter coffee choco after-taste. I had rated this from an earlier batch as 4.5 but this case is no where near as good unfortunately. Wondering if it’s gone bad. Very disappointing. Not worth the price.
