Bottle brewed at Nøgne Ø. Black pour with a vigorous dark tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee and plummy fruit. Near medium body with heavy, creamy carbonation. Strong bitter coffee, smooth malt, burnt toast. Finish is coffee and burnt bitter, but it’s very nicely done. Everything works quite well together.

heavily coffee and oat aroma on top of a very dark brown/black pour with a medium-light tan head. roasted barley, espresso, dark dried fruits (raisin, plum) and red wine tannins. not heavy-bodied but more than medium-bodied, and a thick creamy dance across the palate. roasted finish, green and vinous and hardly bitter; like a high-quality cup of coffee was added to an excellent stout. impressive, far better than other coffee stouts.

Awesome stout. Pours black with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is smokey and chocolately, with coffee and smoked meats. Taste is luscious and full with coffee taking the forefront. Overall, I wish I could drink this for breakfast everyday.

This black ale poured with a rich brown head and a chocolate aroma. There is a complex flavor that is dominated by roasted coffee, but there are also notes of chocolate and dark fruit, with a bitter chalky finish. The taste elements vary in strength as the beer warms, creating a kaleidoscope of flavors. This was fun to drink.

To start, I don’t like coffee much. Ok. Pours black with moderate sized tan-beige head, lots of lacing. The nose has a a little oat, chocolate, and tobacco, oh, and STRONG coffee. Don’t forget the coffee bit. The flavor follows with tobacco, minor fruit, and chocolate that’s more evident with warmth. Oh, and more coffee. Acrid, even through the aftertaste. There are thankfully some minor grassy hops that keep it from it becoming lava, especially as it warms. It’s definitely dry, perhaps creamy, and with some warmth comes carbonation, but is there such a thing as carbonated coffee? Maybe it’s a great beer, but I can’t appreciate the subtlety as the coffee bitter dominates everything: a complete train wreck, sensory overload, 1960s Ingmar Bergman, whatever. Coffee.

bottle from monopoly outlet, Oslo. Nøgne Ø batch. Pours black with thin brown head. Espresso and spices. Sirupy with dark choclate and coffee. Extreme aftertaste of tobacco. A great ale, though not my cup of tea

Pours viscous opaque black with a slightly fizzy dark brown head. Nose is espresso, a very light acidity, dark cocoa. Taste is very dark roasty espresso, with a balancing lightly hoppy acidity on the finish. Smooth, carbonation is medium high, silky and creamy.
