| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 26, 2008 Dark brown, almost black; pours almost like tar. Coffee, dark chocolate aromas. I like coffee, I like stouts, I even like some coffee stouts, but I’m not nuts about this one. The main reason is that I really don’t think the coffee they use is all that good. I loves me a good dark roast coffee as much as the next guy, but the one used here is so dark it almost seems burnt. It comes across as an acrid bitterness, which really interferes with any other flavours going on here. Kind of disappointing. Think my favourite coffee stout is still Southern Tier’s Jah-va kseecs16 (873), Naperville, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2008 Bottle. Poured out an opaque dark brown with a huge bubbling milk chocolate colored head. Little lacing in the glass. Aroma is strongly malty with a big dose of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is very coffee forward, dry, bitter with little to no sweetness in the body. Medium to fll body with a strong lingering bitterness. Good. Nightfall (647), Athens, Greece

From the pitch black appearance with the huge dark brown head. The aromas and flavors of Oatmeal, coffee, chocolate and many more. Great aftertaste that lasts. A wonderful brew. timsilvia32 (446), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Updated: Aug 24, 2008Nearly black pour with a quite sizeable brown head. Mostly coffee, some roast malt aromas. Really sticks to the glass, but somewhat medium bodied. Lots of coffee up front and throughout, some mocha or bakers chocolate, ends with a little bitterness and lingers into creaminess. Definetely near the top, but not above the Founders Breakfast stouts. Maybe more drinkable however with the slightly lower abv. BrotherGrendel (580), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Pours a pitch black hue with a huge layer of brown watery foam that dissipates to a ring with slippy lacing. Nose is full of coffee grounds and espresso, dark chocolate, cream, light grassy tones, grains. Taste is fairly mild coffee (not in your face) with a few milk and sugars added in, light hops and grain midway, finishes bittersweet. Creamy smooth texture with light carbonation. An easy-drinking stout with light coffee flavors, not as extreme as Founder’s or similar coffee stouts. buzzoven (333), Japan
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 22, 2008 Uhhmmm...WOW! After waiting for a long time I was finally able to try this. Bottle at The Raleigh Times. I had been to the bar before and saw it on the menu, but skipped on it, hoping to try it next time. Well, when "next time" came around, it wasn’t on the menu. Thankfully, someone checked in the cellar and they had an extra bottle tucked away! This baby poured thick, deep, black, and ready to drink. The big open mouth glasses really helped that chocolatey oatmeal aroma drift skywards and the head was almost as black as the body. Upon the first sip, I knew this was going to be worth the wait. Super smooth mouthfeel, rounded flavours of coffee (not freeze-dried stuff, mind you; but freshly ground gourmet beans). Some hints of sweetness. Finish was amazing. Coffee, coffee, and more coffee....lasting way into the night and ruining the palate for any other beers that might have been consumed. Could have been a *slight* bit more full-bodied, but the flavour more than makes up for it. Who’s running the show over at Mikkeller? Whoever it is, I congratulate you on another beer well done! I have yet to be let down by this brewer and at this point in time anything they put out is basically a blind buy for me. Recommended! espenra (282), Oslo, Norway
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 19, 2008 50cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Batch 357. It poured a pitch black colour with an enormous creamy tanned head that settled down slowly in the glass. The aroma smells of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts. The flavour is bitter and tastes of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and a hint of alcohol. It has a long, lingering aftertaste. yumyum (122), barrie, Ontario, Canada

Can smell the sweetness of oatmeal in the aroma. Less sweet than oatmeal stouts but very nice flavour of coffee and some bitter chocolate as well. Good mouthfeel. Very nice brew
