jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle thanks to sprinkle.poured Dark brown to black with a HUGE brown head.Sent of roasted malts and coffee. Big complex taste. merlin48 (509), New Tazewell, Tennessee, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle pours dark and inky, and sits ebony and opaque in the glass. Tall khaki brown head has some garnet hues on its fringe and leaves some impressive sticky lacing. Aroma is not as coffee dominant as expected. Bakers chocolate, burnt dark roasted malts, cedar hops, and freshly ground Kona coffee beans comprise the nose. Rich and coating in the mouth, not quite full bodied. Carbonation a bit too aggressive. The coffee comes to life in the taste, with assertive notes of espresso. Bittersweet chocolate and pine hops add to the dry and roasty profile. I can’t pick up any oatmeal notes. Another nice offering from Mikkeller, but not on the same level as some of America’s topnotch coffee stouts(Founders). walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jul 12, 2008 from the bottle. poured dark brown to black with a brown head. aroma sour, roasted malts, coffee, could not get the oat dark chocolate. flavor had a hard time with the flavor the bitterness put be off at first did like the roasted malts and coffee, and the alcohol bite timfoolery (482), California, USA Jul 11, 2008 Bottle from Bottle Trek in Eugene, OR. This reminded me of morning coffee and oatmeal. It poured super dark with limited head, and smelled of espresso/coffee. Unfortunately, we drank this immediately after another bottle of Speedway Stout (Imperial), and it was very thin by comparison. Still, it was damn good, especially for a straight stout! DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Jul 11, 2008 Botte from Bottle Trek in Eugene, OR. Poured a black color with limited head. Smelled of roasted malts and coffee. If there was a beer I would drink with breakfast. The taste of espresso was overwhelming. Tasted more like coffee than beer. Overall pretty good. Joakgust (320), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 11, 2008 Bottle, 50 cl - A pitch black beer with a large frothy dark brown head. Complex aroma with strong notes of high percentage chocolate, dark roasted coffee and tobacco. Flavor is robust, with a smooth maltiness. Strong notes of espresso, much due to its acidity, with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee beans. It’s saltiness and bitterness makes wonder if this isn’t really an imperial stout. Gets better the closer it gets to the right temperature! sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Gillard. Pours black with a nice nutty head. Taste is a little bitter. Aroma is filled with a nice coffee.
I noticed a very subtle lactose.
Mouthfeel, the coffee isn’t as presentt as others, and it remains the low point of this rating.
The beer remains highly drinkable, filled with nice flavors. Hansen (2235), Randers, Denmark Jul 9, 2008 Black. Has a beige head, mostly lasting. Aroma is daaaark too, coffee, burnt chocolate, some alcohol too. Flavor starts moderate sweet, finish heavy bitter. Full body. Warming alcohol.
