Nice smooth brew. Lovely rich. beerwolf77 (42), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 28, 2009 Poured from a bottle into my pint glass this beer is so dark brown it borders on black. The mocha hued head settles nicley on top but goes nowhere. The smell is fantastic. So rich and bold. It smells like a freshly brewed cup of mocha coffee. The flavor is very intense. It has a bold smoky coffee flavor with a dark chocolate ganash and roasted malt backbone. Rather pronounced bitter bite. It wasn’t as thick as I imagined it would be. The carbonation is a bit on the high side but, not too strong. For me this is a nice imperial stout. I could see myself sipping one of these when the weather turns bitter in a few months.
TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 26, 2009 Bottle shared on the 4th of July- Glad my fellow Dev Knights enjoyed! BLACK pour with a thin sticky tan head. You drown in the roasted blackness with steeped grains, coffee, smoked chocolate delights. Coats the palate smooth and creamy. A lot is going on here but it’s all really good. Great way to wrap up a wonderful evening. forfa (4), Brisbane, Australia does not count Jul 26, 2009 Aroma wasn’t as striking as the label would suggest. However the appearance was the first indicator as to how impressive this beer was to become. Initial impressions - expected a strong coffee flavour, yet its subtlety was a pleasant suprise. Building to a crescendo of bitterness and a slight malty taste inherent in many of his beers. Suprisingly more carbonated than expected in a stout, yet smooth and extremely drinkable. Exquisite beer and left me wanting. blklab2007 (943), Connecticut, USA Jul 25, 2009 Updated: Sep 22, 2009bottle poured a dark black in color with a thick tan espresso like head. aroma has roasted coffee, dark chocolate, dark malt, and some underlying sweetness. mouth feel is thick and solid and the carbonation just right for it’s heftiness. flavor has heavy roast both on the coffee and malted sides, bitterness, slight sweetness, and chocolate. the oats work nicely in this one and although it is heavy on the roasted side all the flavors still come through in it. Coltrane (108), South Carolina, USA Jul 23, 2009 Outrageously flavorful at only 7.5. Silky smooth with a ton of coffee flavor and bitterness. Not overly drinkable due to the punch it packs, but still quite wonderful. Paid 8 bucks for a bomber, which is good, but maybe not worth it too often. LarsEngen (101), Sandvika, Norway Jul 22, 2009 50 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours black with a large dark brown head that stays. Aroma of roasted coffe, chocolate and citrus.
