Bottle at Beer & Cheese in Taipei, straight from the airport. Pours a quite still dark brown-black with barely any head. Smells of liquorice and raisin - quite acidic but balanced by some smokiness from coffee and hops. Tastes similar, but more sour and acidic than I expected (having tasted the excellent Beer Hop Breakfast). Not bad but a bit disappointing given what very high expectations I'd had (4.11 average!). Quite sharp and burnt tasting - would be better balanced with more heft in the body/hop in the taste.

From tap @ Bier CaB. Pours pitch black with a big, perfect, brown head. Aroma is sweet, coffee-mocha, caramel, very well balanced. Flavor is great with notes of coffee and chocolate. Light bitter and sweet, not at all watery as I would have expected from a stout but VERY, VERY drinkable, Coffee-mocha notes all over but perfectly balanced. Best stout? Hell yeah!

Keg @ Euston Tap. Complex roasted malts, with coffee, oats and dark chocolate notes.. well balanced and drinkable. Probably helped being a fresh keg too!

Pours black with a thin, mocha head. Mild sediment floating. Aroma has big notes of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Taste has big notes of coffee with roasted malts, and chocolate. Medium body and carbonation. Creamy texture with a dry, espresso finish. Overall a great coffee stout. Lots of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Awesome!

Must be a bad batch going around based on other reviews. This beer tasted and smelled like an ash tray mixed with industrial chemicals, nobody was able to stomach more than a sip. Absolutely disgusting.

Black as black can be, with a beautiful tan head. The smell of coffee caress your nose at once. Taste of licorice, heavy roasted barley, oat and coffee. Lot of good coffee, not the bitter stuff. The cascade and centennial hops is wellbalanced. Still one of my favourite stouts from Mikkeller.

Black pour with bubbly tan head. Smells like roast malt and coffee with some earthiness. Taste is black licorice, roasted malt and tons of coffee. Really, tons of coffee. Quite dry but medium-heavy body - easier to drink than other big stouts.
