Bottle from DocLock in the mystery swap. Thanks Jeff! Pours a dark brown bordering on black with a nice, sudsy, light brown head. Aroma is predominantly coffee, with a little bit of oat and cocoa hinted upon. Flavor is similar to nose, but the coffee is much less pronounced than I expected. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, but the bold coffee and/or chocolate flavors seem to have faded. I have been told this is much better with a year or two of age and I plan on testing that theory.

Pours thick black with a fully receding tan head. Aroma of sweet coffee and toasted malts with notes bittersweet chocolate of cherry. Taste is coffee, chocolate, licorice and caramelized fruits. Mouthfeel is full bodied with soft carbonation.

(on bottle) Pours a pitch and black beer, thick as oil, no white trim at all. Dark beige, fat head, wich sadly diapears. Very coffeeish aroma, but there IS a fume of grassy hops hovering over it, wich gives balance.. The extreme coffeetaste leaves little room for anything else - just the hard and dry taste of a heavy roasted coffee. The finish goes on for eons; after the cold coffee, there is a lash of 80+ chocolate. The coffeelovers new favorite.

bottle acquired in trade. pours black with a creamy cocoa colored head. aroma of chocolate, dark roasted malts, coffee and bitterness possibly from the hops? flavor is the aroma. bitter like chicory w/o the aspirin dryness in the back of the throat. aftertaste of really nice coffee sticks around for a while. super creamy oatmeal texture. lacks depth and is kinda one dimensional....but so is a cup of coffee...

Bottle placed into my brand new, shiny beer graile. I’m pretty excited about it and decided to break it in in style. Pour is really thick and blackish brown with a short-lived brown head that, with time dies down to a thin film on the surface with a few bubbles rising above the etched area on the bottom. Aromas are strongly charcoal-ish with lots of peat and espresso. Maybe there is a bit of an anise seed tilt to it, too. Mouthfeel is silky and exquisit. The smokey charcoal flavor leads the charge, but is quickly supported by some espresso, dark chocolate and peat... and I think that I’m picking up some of that anise in the background. Very smooth and I could probably drink several bombers of it before I realized what a bad idea that was. For a plain Jane stout, this is fantastic... I must say that, while at first I was a little disappointed (expecting some sort of trumpet blast or other sort of epiphany/divine experience and not finding it) this really grew on me as I worked my way through the bottle... take your time, enjoy it and let it air and warm.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu on 2008-02-23) Very dark brown colour. Small head. Hops and roasted malts in nose. Full bodied. Roasted malts and hops in taste that moves from sweetish to bitter. Coffee in taste. Dry palate.
