3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is very complex; I was ready for that. It takes a few sniffs to get everything that is going on. Smells of oak, bourbon, light raisin, fig. Not as strong of a coffee aroma as one would expect. Dark chocolate undertones in the scent. Expensive dark chocolate, not artificial like in some beers. Some booze, not much. Black in color with a medium tan head. Leaves heavy lacing on the glass. Great looking stout. Taste is pleasant coffee, not overpowering. Hop bitterness comes through after the coffee. Flavor is not nearly as complex as the aroma. Surprisingly watery in texture - I was really expecting a richer palate. I can see why they say it goes well with breakfast. A stronger beer would be too much for the morning. Being that I never drink beer for breakfast, I really have no use for this. The palate is disappointing, it’s very expensive and the flavor doesn’t give you much besides coffee and hops. It’s not bad, but no way should it be 100 points. Perhaps I am biased because I like big, bold, rich stouts, and this is not one of those. For the price and reputation, I was expecting to be blown away. Right off the top of my head, I can think of 5 stouts I like better than this.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
0.33 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before May 2019. Pitch black with a thin, fluffy, rather quickly diminishing, brown head. Sweetish, roasty-malty aroma with lots of coffee, burnt nuts, tobacco, some licorice and dark chocolate. Sweetish, roasty-malty taste of coffee, dark chocolate, some licorice, tobacco and burnt nuts, followed by a short, roasty-bitter finish. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice, but the aroma promised a bit more, body is a bit thin as well. Maybe too old already.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
7.3%ABV. Breakfast Stout
Tapped out black. 40ºSRM.
Nose has some nice roasted malt goodness. Smoke and umami.
Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate is crammed full of deeply roasted flavors: burnt toast, burnt ends, burnt roast pork, char Siew ends. There are also more full bodied malt flavors of black bread, rye toast, Hops if present are bitter and resinous. The alcoholic palate accentuates the resinous favor of the hops.
Finish is smoky and bitter with alcohol in the back of the throat.
Goes on Favorites List!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A- Coffee, roasty, subtle booze.
A- Black color, black liquid, brown head.
T- Coffee, roasty, dry cocoa.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish.
O- A straight forward, no bs, coffee stout. Not really complex or rich but does what it’s meant to do. Solid, but I’d have liked it to be a bit more robust.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 9, 2016 Bottle at Eulogy. Have had multiple variations of this brew over the years but never rated the original. Needs to warm up to be best appreciated. Cold coffee. Espresso. Dark roasted malts. Feels glossier than other variations. Still good stuff. Drives mute though.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Barwa czarna, piana ładna, beżowa, redukuje się do obrączki.
Aromat średnio-intensywny: przypalony syrop klonowy, nuty palone i gorzkiej czekolady. W smaku wytrawne, nuty popiołowe mieszają się z lekko lurowatą czarna kawą. Finisz lekko kwaśny, z niską kawową goryczką. Smaczne, ale nic odkrywczego.
