3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
The aroma is very complex; I was ready for that. It takes a few sniffs to get everything that is going on. Smells of oak, bourbon, light raisin, fig. Not as strong of a coffee aroma as one would expect. Dark chocolate undertones in the scent. Expensive dark chocolate, not artificial like in some beers. Some booze, not much. Black in color with a medium tan head. Leaves heavy lacing on the glass. Great looking stout. Taste is pleasant coffee, not overpowering. Hop bitterness comes through after the coffee. Flavor is not nearly as complex as the aroma. Surprisingly watery in texture - I was really expecting a richer palate. I can see why they say it goes well with breakfast. A stronger beer would be too much for the morning. Being that I never drink beer for breakfast, I really have no use for this. The palate is disappointing, it’s very expensive and the flavor doesn’t give you much besides coffee and hops. It’s not bad, but no way should it be 100 points. Perhaps I am biased because I like big, bold, rich stouts, and this is not one of those. For the price and reputation, I was expecting to be blown away. Right off the top of my head, I can think of 5 stouts I like better than this.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Muddy brown with a dark tan head. Poured this one a bit too cold, but the smell is potent nonetheless, and quickly grows in complexity. Strikingly well balanced aroma that combines dark chocolate, coffee, and a wonderfully umami palette of soy sauce, teriyaki and miso. Some bright berries also shine through, notably red currants and cranberries. That beautiful balances extends onto the palate with a smooth, rich flavor that complements the nose. The aftertaste is a perfect – the slight bitterness of roasted coffee, the chewy oatmeal softness and a burst of juicy raisins. I had pegged Beer Geek Breakfast as a bombastic stout in my mind, but I was surprised to find a well-mannered, nuanced brew. This is a gentleman’s beer and simply an excellent stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with medium brown head. Intense raw coffee, tobacco and some alcohol. Same strong coffee with tobacco, chocolate and smoke. Thick and viscous with a smooth palate and a surprisingly abrupt finish. I quite like it.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Svart och lite trög. Doft av kallt kaffe. Smaken är djup och fin med kaffe och rostade toner. En kärvhet och torr på slutet

Dark black pour with small persistent brown head. Not much aroma. Flavor is bitter but little else. I’m a bit underwhelmed for the hype this gets.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: sweetness, coffee and stout mixed together; much better than average stout; Appearance: pitch black with creamy tan head that dissipates very slowly; Taste: reverts back to a traditional stout (not as nice as aroma) but still a much more complex flavor that builds on the tongue; smooth, pleasant coffee flavor; Palate: heavy body with creamy, sweet finish; Overall: while still not my favorite style, definitely the best stout I’ve ever had.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aspetto bello, marrone molto. Cremosa e poco frizzante. Davvero grande Stout.
