Roasted tar aroma, lots of tar, viol, licorice, dry hops, rather smoked and with notes of chocolate and cream. Hoppy tar flavor, cocoa, chocolate, smoke, ash, salty and with a really bitter hoppy finish. Also some slat and tar in the finish. jerc (3966), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Finally getting around to rating this after procuring some through inertiaboy and Bieropholie (the website not the brewery). Dark black body with a massive creamy brown Aero bar like head. Fairly acidic roat in the aroma at first, plentiful accents of chocolate and mocha. Flavour is surprisingly bitter both from the hops and roast malt/coffee bitterness. Gets smoothed out by an underlying sweet malt and chocolate base. The bottle has been waiting for me for a while so I am wondering if the coffee has mellowed somewhat in the meantime. If so it was for the better in my opinion, I was expecting much more of a coffee-bomb, which would not have been to my liking as much. Smooth full bodied palate. Very nice! fuyajo (225), Portland, Oregon, USA

Taste is similar -- lots of coffee notes, roasted flavors, slight bit of sweetness. Nice long-lasting finish for roast. A very good stout! BeerandBlues2 (3237), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 10, 2007 Bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland. Pours opaque with a small, dark brown, creamy head, somewhat diminishing, fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (coffee, chocolate, toasted grain), heavy hops (perfume, grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of light alcohol, raisins, smoke and vanilla. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness; dark roasted coffee, dark and slightly bitter chocolate, wood and smoke flavors. lamas (737), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA

First off, these guys have some fantastic graphic designers doing their labels. As for the beer, it begins with a pitch-black pour with a thick and creamy chestnut brown head on top. Aroma of dark chocolate, rich and roasty coffee beans, creamy vanilla and some resiny hops. Goes down velvety smooth with a full body. Starts with light caramel and dark chocolate and finishes bitter and dry with some roasty/toasty coffee and graininess. A little smoke and wood in there at the end too. Impressive. blankboy (3264), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I’m pretty excited, I’ve been looking forward to trying this for a while now. Pours an impenetrable black, lots of bubbles stuck to the side of the glass, with a large long lasting foamy brown head -- looks great! Wonderful aroma of roast coffee, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, smoke, oats, pepper and a nice amount of grassy hops -- so much going on here and it smells great. Big chocolaty flavour with lots of coffee, roasted malt, hops, some smoke, oatmeal and a big roasty bitter finish -- so flavourful and easy to drink, goes down smooth. Alcohol’s well hidden. Medium to full bodied, creamy/oily mouthfeel. Man, what more can I see about this awesome beer? It’s simply fantastic. I will also add how ecstatic I am that I will be receiving more of them soon. I look forward to trying more Mikkeler beers. barleyPops (1081), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 13, 2008 While I did not drink this with breakfast, I did enjoy it in the morning. I’m sure this beer would be great anytime, but it was perfect for a morning beer! Looked like motor oil on the pour, thick & creamy with a short lived head. Flavor was rich with coffee bean and licorice, followed by more dark roasted coffee, but without being overly bitter. This brew was smooth and creamy with many underlying flavors coming through from time to time. I’m not always thrilled with coffee laced beers, but this was delightful! Thanks to richlikebeer for the bottle. TomDecapolis (3222), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of coffee, roasted malts, nuts, vanilla, cream, oatmeal and just a nice coffee based complex malty aroma. Flavor of rich coffee, roasted malts, some nuts, creamy with hints of vanilla.
