satan165 (105), River Grove, Illinois, USA Aug 28, 2008 Updated: Aug 29, 2008very sharp start unlike anything ive had in a stout, almost astringent. after the hops subside, the oats kick in for a smooth finish, but one that is shortlived. this doesnt have the decadent, luxurious feel that most oatmeal stouts provide. mouthfeel is atypical and not silky at all, color is dark as the grim reapers cloak. maximum coffee and minimum chocolate, nearly acidic. booze is not hidden, its at the forefront surprisingly. many oatmeal stouts are only comforting but this is truly challenging. Imperial-John (89), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Aug 27, 2008 Jan 16/07 66cl bottle courtesy of Hogtown Harry. Aroma is more extreme from aging. Deep milk choco espresso. Dark brown with big foamy espresso head that eventually thins. Thick bittersweet choco roasted espesso alcohol taste with lasting after-taste. Packs a punch, surprised it is only 7.5%. tuqueboy (21), toronto, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Dark brown, almost black; pours almost like tar. Coffee, dark chocolate aromas. I like coffee, I like stouts, I even like some coffee stouts, but I’m not nuts about this one. The main reason is that I really don’t think the coffee they use is all that good. I loves me a good dark roast coffee as much as the next guy, but the one used here is so dark it almost seems burnt. It comes across as an acrid bitterness, which really interferes with any other flavours going on here. Kind of disappointing. Think my favourite coffee stout is still Southern Tier’s Jah-va kseecs16 (533), Westmont, Illinois, USA Aug 26, 2008 Bottle. Poured out an opaque dark brown with a huge bubbling milk chocolate colored head. Little lacing in the glass. Aroma is strongly malty with a big dose of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is very coffee forward, dry, bitter with little to no sweetness in the body. Medium to fll body with a strong lingering bitterness. Good. Nightfall (308), Athens, Greece Aug 24, 2008 Nr.300 Rating - 0,5 lt Bottle found in Holstebro (Beer Paradise). What an amazing beer. From the pitch black appearance with the huge dark brown head. The aromas and flavors of Oatmeal, coffee, chocolate and many more. Great aftertaste that lasts. A wonderful brew.
