Keg @ Bierhaus, Galway [160414]
Pitch black, creamy tan head, good lacing
Aroma - rich deep dark malts, good quality coffee that is well integrated and not over intense, dark chocolate, some savoury malts, slight soy, complex
Taste as aroma, really well integrated coffee, nice coffee roast, very rich yummy dark malts, soft roasted malts, getting some slight zesty hops on side of tongue, no over roasted stuff in here, complex, tastes superb
Palate - Soft carb, medium to full body, not too bitter, not too sweet, so well balanced. Finish as main flavour, getting more of those zest hops in the tail with all the coffee, dark malts and chocolate
Overall - What a find in Galway. Should have had this before. Just a fantastic stout!

Bottle. Brewed at Lervig. Pours black with a small brown head. Lots of coffee in the aroma, some roasted notes. Taste is coffee, light bitter roasted, a bit one dimensional. Medium body, a bit thin finish.

Bottle at Beer & Cheese in Taipei, straight from the airport. Pours a quite still dark brown-black with barely any head. Smells of liquorice and raisin - quite acidic but balanced by some smokiness from coffee and hops. Tastes similar, but more sour and acidic than I expected (having tasted the excellent Beer Hop Breakfast). Not bad but a bit disappointing given what very high expectations I'd had (4.11 average!). Quite sharp and burnt tasting - would be better balanced with more heft in the body/hop in the taste.

From tap @ Bier CaB. Pours pitch black with a big, perfect, brown head. Aroma is sweet, coffee-mocha, caramel, very well balanced. Flavor is great with notes of coffee and chocolate. Light bitter and sweet, not at all watery as I would have expected from a stout but VERY, VERY drinkable, Coffee-mocha notes all over but perfectly balanced. Best stout? Hell yeah!

Keg @ Euston Tap. Complex roasted malts, with coffee, oats and dark chocolate notes.. well balanced and drinkable. Probably helped being a fresh keg too!

Medium body and carbonation. Creamy texture with a dry, espresso finish. Overall a great coffee stout. Lots of coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Awesome!

Must be a bad batch going around based on other reviews. This beer tasted and smelled like an ash tray mixed with industrial chemicals, nobody was able to stomach more than a sip. Absolutely disgusting.
