Motor oil. Stale coffee soaked wood. Alcohol, char and warmed up motor engine. Pours a flat, oily black. Flavor has lots of grease, chocolate, stale coffee, watered down melted chocolate. Liquorice, anise and char. Flabby, greasy, oily and slick body. Who knew that a beer could taste like like a car engine smells? Further evidence that I really don’t like these N. European Imperial Stouts.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 25, 2009 A beautiful wee bottle thanks to marsiblursi. Pour is predictably black with a thin brown head. Aroma is luscious and rich. It has a heavy milk chocolate component up front with light coffee and a solid background roasted malt aroma. Maybe just a light alcohol aroma with a hint of smoke as well. If it tastes half as good as it smells, we are all in for a real treat. Flavor is ashy, smokey, and notable coffee. Very little sweetness. It tastes different than it smells for sure. It does not taste bad, just very different which was quite a surprise. Still delicious as far as Im concerned. A nice Xmas treat. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Huge thanks to Papsoe for this very special bottle. Pours deep black, completely still but for a very small rim of tan that clings to the edge of the snifter. The aroma is not what I expected, mostly lots of fruit. The taste is much more what I figured I was into, lots of things going on at first, but eventually resolves to a very smooth roasted coffee with a touch of chocolaty sweetness that keeps building for a few seconds before subsiding. Extremely smooth, glad I got a chance to try this one. annahawk (11), Sweden

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Bottled. A really small one. The aroma is chewy peanut, dark rum, with kind of a crunchy, plummy, roasty note to it. Not one dimensional but not especially complex either. Disappointing mouthfeel, sugary and boozy without much heft to it. Little flavor until the finish, where it seems to cram everything all into one massive hit. Tons of alcohol burn. Not great. The kind of beer that would get little recognition if you stuck some random American brewer name on it.
