50 cL bottle, courtesy of Ungstrup. My Mikkeller RB rating #100. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity bourbon and smooth wooden. Vanilla, coffee herbal and lingering dark malty. Mixed caramelish, dark malty, vanilla, fruity and dark coffee blended with chocolate in the flavour. Smooth dark malty and alcohol flavoured into a smooth malty and vanilla finish.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has straw malt, coffee, and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of strong notes of alcohol, roasted malt, and bourbon, leading to a very roasted finish. The alcohol burns - ARGH.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours an opaque black with a light brown head. Sweet aroma of dextrose and hard roasted malt with an odd tang. Solid body, hard roasted malt and dextrose with only a vague note of Bourbon. Warming alcohohol in the finish. The Bourbon doesn’t really shine but detracts from the base beer. 010410

Bottled. Pitch black colour, not much head. Aroma is caramel malts, toffee, some sweet whisky, coffee and some mild vanilla. Flavour is quite much the same. I actually think this is rather complex and balanced, Mild smoked and rosted coffee in aftertaste. If something negative on this, it’s rather sweet. I still like it quite much.

Opaque dark brown beer, good dark tan head. Smooth silky palate. Nice nose of espresso and coffee ice cream! Rich and smooth dark malt, rich coffee, vanilla and coffee ice cream. Well integrated spicy bourbon. A semi dry finish with mild bitterness and alcohol. Further ageing probably would not hurt but a rich coffee treat nontheless.

Tasting at Papsø
Black color; brown head. The aroma is not strong, some roasted malt, phenols. Good body, strong chocolate flavor, light liquorice and vanilla (bourbon), pleasant alcohol warmth; good bitterness level. It doesn’t reach emotional heights, but it’s a good beer.

Bottle. An oily pour reveals a black beer, topped by a lasting tan head of finger-thick size. Slightly spiced nose, some basil and maybe some sage. Alcohol and mocha plays the leading roles though. The flavor is mostly mocha, with chocolate, roasted malts, alcohol and that little spiced note known from the aroma. Full-bodied, warming and super-smooth. Bitter finish with chocolate. Coffee-like bitterness that is. Overall quite low on the barrel flavors. A fine beer, but I prefer the unbarreled edition, even though this one is certainly a good beer. Easy drinkable and the spice touch is unusual but pleasant. 100409
