4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Well, I’m not surprised I love this beer so much. I thought the Highland edition was good but wasn’t really an improvement on what was already a perfect beer. This however, is superb. Not so much an improvement, but a massive compliment to a brilliant creation. Pours black with amazing brown coloured head. Aroma is just what you’d expect. Vanilla, Mocha & malt up front, followed by chocolate Bourbon, roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is to die for, rich and warming roasted malt, dark chocolate, espresso, bourbon, vanilla, milk chocolate, cream and butter, hops balancing in the background, mids become more bitter and coffee dominant, finish is dry, loads of coffee, Choco and warmth from spirituous Bourbon. Comparable to De Molen’s Misto, but perhaps (dare I say) more balanced, more bitterness and roastedness to offset the boozy notes? I love H&V Misto, but is this perhaps the next logical step, a slightly more savoury offering? One way or another, this is masterful brewing.

One of the "coffee-est" I've had over the years. Mikkeller never disappoint.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home. Pours an opaque black with a tiny light brown head. Sweet and bitter. Aromas of roast coffee, sweet licorice and residual sugars. Also aromas of figs, and alcohol. Tiny hints of vanilla and almonds. Very full bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Also some slimy gunks in the bottom... old beer, I guess. Very soft carbonation. Bitter finish with more figs and coffee.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Gramity for sharing this bad boy! Sampled back to back with the highland edition. Pour was dark black fudge but it was pretty dark out and difficult to see. The smell is lots of bourbon and oak. The taste is a fair bit of bourbon up front followed by roasted ash.. like the highland a pretty old bottle alos and I think what is left of the coffee is now the burnt aftertase on the finish..note to self..drink these suckers fresh!

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - Peppery, cardamom and other spices. Jet black thin persistent brown head. Roasted malts and again more spices, I get no coffee in this at all. Bad bottle? Still nice stout with a tone of peppery spice and sweet finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with (and great courtesy of) ClubGonzo and Inbreak. Pours a deep reddish brown colour with a small light brown head. Sweet aroma of bourbon, spices, licorice, brown sugar, cola, caramel, roasted malt and chocolate truffles. Has a powerful taste with a great touch of alcohol. Is more roasted in the end with a good dose of anis. Has a oily mouth feel, and a lasting medium bitterness. A powerful stout but is balanced and nice.
