4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
• The beer pours a pitch black color. The head is dark brown and less than one finger. It turns into a tan ring around the glass. Big aroma. Lots of fruity esters, some dark fruits, but also some vinous notes. Sweet alcohol notes mixed with oak, definite bitter chocolate/coffee notes pulling at you as well. Wow! Huge flavors! Massively complex! The beer enters your palate very softly with faint cognac notes and a vinous fruitiness along with some oak. As it moves to the middle of the palate, it explodes with a carbonation burst that unleashes the most amazing combination of semi sweet/dark bitter chocolate flavor mixed with slightly bitter coffee. As it finishes, the chocolate takes a back seat to the pleasantly bitter kopi lua coffee which rolls the alcohol burn down into your belly, and you exhale cognac. WOW! The body is medium to medium full. Very velvety in the mouth. Leaves tremendous legs down the glass.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark mahogany beer with a thin beige head. Big fruity nose with lots of alcohol, especially as it warms. Huge beer with tons of alcohol, dried fruit, molasses, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla and oak. Definitely an end of the night sipping beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
8.5 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown to black color with a small tan head that disappears into a thin ring. The aroma and flavor have a subdued coffee note, roast, dark fruits, ash, dark chocolate, barrel notes, light cognac, some molasses, and hides the alcohol well. Big beer that we were lucky to see in Ohio.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at BeerTemple Amsterdam. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. There is so much cognac everywhere in this beer. The coffee has faded compared to the regular brunch. Taste like grown up’s candy with dark chocolate. Thick and sticky. Really good, though we ordered George! Cognac ;)

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Rating #300. Bottle from Brill & Co. Pours pitch black with no head. Very nice dark brown oily traces when swirled in the snifter. Aroma is vanilla, oak, coffee, chocolate, muscovado sugar, honey, slight boozy notes. Mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and slightly creamy though not overly so. Taste is coffee beans, vanilla, muscovado sugar, resin, slightly boozy. Exceptionally well balanced, the aftertaste is pure coffee and cognac. Superb!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours pitch black with no head. With a swirl it gives off a very dark tan head leaving good lacing. Nose shows a heap of bitter espresso and unbalanced vanilla with a fair chunk of booze to go with it. The taste is more balanced and smooth than the nose aludes to. It’s all about the espresso tones though. Coffee is the focus with heavy doses of dark chocolate, light spice and a constant creeping on of vanilla. Sweet finish which helps round off the bitter espresso characteristics. A little heat on the finish and mouth feel is a touch thin. Solid beer but Mikkeller has done better

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 2012 drank June 2013. The aroma is moderately strong dark roast, raisin, soy, really good coffee, and wood. The flavor is somewhat like a bitter cola. It’s sugary sweet though not cloying before the notes in the aroma plus a more herbal bitter character come in and give way to long woody very bitter chocolate and espresso finish. It’s a bit thin in feeling with subdued carbonation and a slight alcohol bite. It’s not as big or complex as I was expecting. Still plenty good.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bammmm, this is awesome. I really loved the cognac influence on this. Good clean looking beer, slight head, but a lovely treacle look. Sweet upfront then a lovely, balanced, roast. The beer finishes dry but leaving you asking for a bigger bottle!
