Keg at Brewdog. Boozy sweet velvet with choco fetishes and possibly the best colour tan head since god knows when. Attack of the prunes. Defended by the cloak of cognac. After this I fear nobody. I mean you really ought to.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Keg at ND Camden. It pours jet black with a thick tan head. The nose is rich roast, sweet coffee, vanilla, light apple notes, juicy, charred wood, light spice, burnt toffee, nougat and a good hit of chocolate. The taste is rich roast, smooth, bitter-sweet, cocoa, earth, coffee, mild acidity, warming alcohol, wood, charred stuff, medicinal notes, tar and some dried apple with a dry, roasty finish. Full body, fine carbonation and slick mouth-feel. Rich and decadent, yet remains very drinkable. Good stuff.

On tap at Mikkeller Bar Stockholm. Black with a beige head. Complex roasted coffee, oranges, vanilla aromas. Good dry roast balanced by orange zest, vanilla and sweeter chocolate flavours. A great beer.

Bottle. Black with a medium sized dark brown head. Smells real nice; wood, pepper, vanilla, fudge. Soft and filling mouthfeel with warming and light stinging alcohol. Pleasantly sweet with balancing bitterness, some acidity too. Rich flavor with oak, salty licorice, light minerals, roasted malt, figs, vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate. Malty finish that slowly fades. Good, real good.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black pour with thin head. Grassy, orange peel, cocoa, charcoal, booze on the nose. Taste is a dry field of grass, cocao, burnt wood, not overly complex and a bit dry for me. Feel was a bit thin for the style but overall decent.

Chocolate and lightly acidic coffee nose, mellowed out with vanilla and oak. I suspect the light acidity and fruitiness is more so from the barrel than the coffee, but it’s a well integrated coffee-driven imperial stout filled with flavour - oak, vanilla, earthy, chocolate like coffee which doesn’t get too roasted or goes over the top. This is the best version of the Beer Geek Brunch Weasel’s I’ve tried, and for some reason it had a better mouthfeel than Islay & Bourbon.
