8.5 oz. bottle. Pours like dark ink with only a slight ring around the glass. Aroma is cognac, black licorice, and sweet coffee. Taste is cognac and raisins up front that transitions into roast and coffee of outstanding quality. Thick and oily on the palate leading to a bitter chocolatey finish

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle @ THLBBT May. Pours a pitch black beer with a decent amount of brown head. Aroma is boozy, roasty, touches of cognac but not much. Flavor is very alcoholic and strong a bit out of balance, some coffee in there, base beer has faded behind a strong alcoholic front, most likely done by the cognac. Aftertaste is strong and sweet as well. Meh, not the greatest.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared. Pours near black with a beige head. Aroma of overpowering cognac booziness upfront with caramel, licorice, dark chocolate and coffee subdued behind. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation. The cognac didn’t work so well with this, too boozy and detracting from the excellent base beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
dark brown, minimal head. Aroma somewhat subdued, considering. Taste is explosive, sweet, dark, chocolate, and intense but not roasty coffee, vanilla and marshmallow, but the Whiskey Cask edition is better than this.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
very dark, almost black colour, huge, dense dark brown head; aroma of chocolate, roasted coffee, woody and vanilla notes, and some spicy alcohol; taste of roasted bitterness of coffee, some syrupy sweetness which is more and more intensive as it warms up, woody, vanilla and herbal notes, hints of dark chocolate, maybe some cognac; oily texture; really amzing!

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Some superlatives apply to this beer. One of the darkest I’ve had, and definetely the darkest brown head I’ve seen, though it doesn’t last long. The texture is, if not the thickest, then the most velvety and creamy mouthfeel I’ve had. Aroma starts off as pure coffee, with the cognac taking a while to sneak through, though it is pleasant when it arrives. Dark chocolate and black fruits with some toasty malts in the mouth. The booze is present but submerged, not under cloying sweetness but under a weight of chocolate.
