4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kramer (3909) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 28, 2012Bottle. Avenue Pub. Pours a pitch black body with a small dark brown head that retained as a thin ring. The nose is huge roasty malt with some coffee, light wood, and a slight booziness. Sweet burnt caramel, some light vanilla. The flavor is intense yet really pretty smooth for the hugeness of it. Thick sweet and roasty malt with a good bit of coffee. The cognac doesn’t really express itself a whole lot, but it does add a bit of smoothness and character to the finish that differentiates itself from the regular version. Full bodied, really chewy, with light carbonation. Really nice beer, not exceptionally different or even better than the regular Weasal, but surely a treat to try, and the kind of experience that makes the Avenue Pub a true beer geek destination.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bmerz (490) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - JUN 9, 2013
Bottle 2012 drank June 2013. The aroma is moderately strong dark roast, raisin, soy, really good coffee, and wood. The flavor is somewhat like a bitter cola. It’s sugary sweet though not cloying before the notes in the aroma plus a more herbal bitter character come in and give way to long woody very bitter chocolate and espresso finish. It’s a bit thin in feeling with subdued carbonation and a slight alcohol bite. It’s not as big or complex as I was expecting. Still plenty good.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 pmuzz (286) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 30, 2013
Bammmm, this is awesome. I really loved the cognac influence on this. Good clean looking beer, slight head, but a lovely treacle look. Sweet upfront then a lovely, balanced, roast. The beer finishes dry but leaving you asking for a bigger bottle!
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 rxeight (483) - Illinois, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Tiny little expensive ass bottle into a snifter. Sitting in my fridge for over a year. Aroma of brownie batter. Chocolate and malt. Touch of coffee lots of booze. The booze slowly builds on the back end and lingers for a bit. Not familiar with conjac, but there is something in there im not familiar with. This is good stuff. Definately not worth $2 an ounce.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Foffern (772) - Bodø, NORWAY - MAY 22, 2013
Bottle shared with (and great courtesy of) the Bergen tasting crew. The colour is deep nut brown and has no head. Powerful aroma with lots of liqour, oak, caramel, chocolate truffles, soy sauce and nice sweetness. More pronounced cognac in the flavour along with warming alcohol and coffee in the end. Has a rich and sticky mouth feel, and a light to medium bitterness. The beer has a distinct touch of cognac and alcohol, but is pretty decent.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Inbreak (247) - Loddefjord, NORWAY - MAY 12, 2013
11.05.2013, 0,25l bottle sampled @ BBGTC moving-home-tasting for Floffern:
Small shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral, cocoa, alcohol, grass, coffee, dark sugar, wood, almonds. Taste is medium rich and sweet, slightly dry, coffee, dark sugar, wood, cocoa, alcohol, grass. Medium dry finish and bitterness. Not a favourite, I have never really been a big fan of cognac barrel aging.

Nip bottle thanks to weihenweizen for picking this up. Pours a thick, viscous black with a brown head of foam. Aroma has some rich caramel and vanilla ice cream on top of rich coffee roasty notes. There’s an interesting raspberry note in there as well. Thick mouthfeel. Nice beer!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ClubGonzo (2762) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 11, 2013
Bottle, shared with Foffern and Inbreak at Foffern’s going-away tasting. Pours a pitch black body with a tiny beige head. Nose is faint cognac, dark chocolate, hints of licorice and coffee. A bit neutral, compared to the Calvados version. Taste is coffee, cognac, wood, licorice, dark chocolate, coffee and hints of alcohol. Subtle cognac tones, perhaps a bit too subtle. Full body, soft carbonation. A nice enough beer, but I prefer the Calvados or regular version.
