4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Served from a 8.5 oz bottle from OTM. The appearance is a beautiful dark chocolaty brown with a big brown foam bubble head. The nose is alcohol, and cognac or brandy booze I guess. Some roasty character too with a healthy coffee dose behind the liquor. The flavors have fruity alcohol, apples, rich coffee, oatmeal, heavy roasted grain, nice melon and apple alcohol tones. Full and smooth smooth. Just like the regular Beer Geek Brunch, very easy to drink with a low acidity. A fantastic and delicious beer. The price is very high, especially for the size but at least the beer was delicious. I’ll probably try to find the Calvados version to compare since the back of my bottle says "aged in Calvados"

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors, and has been sitting in my cellar for over two years. Pours midnight black, thin khaki head that dies to an oily ring, lacing that stays if anything, but mainly non-existent. Nose is well, heaven. So silky sweet, surprisingly no real roast on the nose. Vanilla bean, a touch of coffee and booze. Tastes really sweet, roasty, dark chocolate bitter, boozy to the point that it is a bit dry in the mouth, vanilla, toffee, chocolate fudge, a touch of caramel, and coffee finally. Incredibly complex. Fantastic, another hit, almost bummed I took so long to drink it.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
8.5oz bottle. Pours black with a ring, tan head. Aroma has smooth notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and barrel, and slight spirits. Taste is bitter but balanced. Super smooth notes of dark chocolate, coffee, barrel, spirits, and a bit of alcohol taste and warmth. Not as tart or fruity as the calvados. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Silky mouth feel with a perfect carbonation. Overall epic. The coffee and chocolate are tamer than the base but with smooth barrel and cognac notes. Really elegant beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from backlog.
Black with a brown head.
Aroma: chocolate pralines, roasted, wood, licorice, cognac.
Taste: soy sauce, dark wine gums, sweet licorice, salmiak, milk chocolate and cocoa, cognac, wood.
My kind of beer, although as I remember it, I loved the calva version even more.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle I picked up in 2012. Dark, dark, dark brown, minimal head. Aroma somewhat subdued, considering. Taste is explosive, sweet, dark, chocolate, and intense but not roasty coffee, vanilla and marshmallow, a sort of chocolate milk creaminess. Really smooth, barely any burning.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Cognac right up the nose immediately, along with serious dark roast and a lot of fumes. Dark as can be, dark brown head, no lace. Barrel is so strong, then some smooth chocolate emerges, but then barrel kicks in again. Boozy with the cognac, soy sauce. Major alc. warmth. Thick, dripping sticky body. Wow! Extremely rich stuff. The extra dimension from the barrel aging is very nice. But the regular version of this beer is tastier and more of an imperial stout experience.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Shared by Maekchu for my 6000th rate. Black with lace. Nose of cognac, soy sauce, smoke, grapes. Lots of umami, cognac and woody barrel. Flavor is grapes and cognac, oysters, something a bit fishy, coffee, salt. Lots of grapes / raisins, and a touch of licorice. Very nice, though I like the regular better.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Small bottle. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas and flavors are similar to the base brunch but with more sharp alcohol in smell and taste. Still an excellent beer but not as notable as the base brunch or other BA versions.

Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of vanilla, chocolate, wood and dried fruit. Full bodied with low carbonation. Extremely viscous. Great beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nose: cognac, sweet toffee, cognac, wee bit of roast, cognac
Pour: very dark brown, no head, mocha lacing
Mouthfeel: very light carbonation, full bodied
Palate: Jesus, this is outstandingly more-ish! First up, cognac sweetness followed by a lovely chocolate and oat mix finished with slight booziness in the throat. On further mouthfuls roastiness makes itself apparent.
Overall, a dark beer as smooth as its cognac counterpart, being tasty with low carbonation means this goes down ridiculously well for 10.9%
